Since Noozhawk was hatched almost three years ago, we’ve made it our business to cover mainstream local daily news. Now we’re making local news by covering business with the same daily commitment.
Beginning today, Noozhawk business writer Ray Estrada will be providing daily reporting on local business news, business trends and business analysis. Ray has been a professional business journalist in Santa Barbara for more than 20 years; he and I even worked together at the old daily newspaper ... but that’s a distant memory and seems like a lifetime ago.
In addition, our Kevin McFadden (no relation to me) will continue to write the high-tech profile features that have drawn us strong traffic and retweets. Kevin’s latest work — posted here — takes a closer look at Axia, a local credit-card processor with a low profile and a high yield.
We’ll also be publishing local business press releases, and we have an ambitious list of additional business features in the works.
We’ve received an enthusiastic response from the business community, which appears to appreciate our professionalism, fairness and eye for entrepreneurial opportunity. I’m grateful to my friend, Mark Mattingly, and his team at Pacifica Commercial Realty for sponsoring the section. Mark, along with Alan Griffin at Crowell, Weedon & Co., played a key role in helping us launch it right away.

Noozhawk is on the pioneering edge of New Media, and we’re taking advantage of technological and cultural trends and opportunities, as well as the general disarray in traditional media. We have a number of innovative projects we’re working on right now, including a unique public-engagement survey about to make its debut on the city of Santa Barbara’s budget.
We’re building an exciting new community in Santa Barbara and on the South Coast that is centered around local news and information. We invite you to be a part of it. Thank you for checking us out.
