A Santa Barbara woman is recovering from her injuries Tuesday after being clipped by a passing Amtrak train near Gaviota Beach on Monday.

Drew Sugars, a public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, said the 27-year-old woman was attempting to cross the train tracks about 5:20 p.m. Monday when she was hit.

She was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Sugars said her injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening.

The sheriff’s department, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol responded to the incident.

Scary how many people run along, cross, etc while listening to Ipods. Earlier poster is correct, trains are easy to avoid when you are not distracted by blaring tunes. Darwin at work.

Hopefully the sheriff’s department also issued her a citation for trespassing.

I wonder how long before we have to build a suicide barrier the full length of the Train route? Or outlaw trains?

If you read the news you will see that has been 3 accidents on the same area on the last 2 weeks.
On that area there is a hill and a turn, is hard to see if the train is coming if you try to cross, trains are fast, and if they are behind the hill, it may caugh you trying to cross.
Hopefully she will recover soon and sue the train for not having a fence where is dangerous & hard to see.
