Letter to the Editor: No More Lame-Duck Congress
On Nov. 2, the American people sent a clear message: Stop spending, cut the national debt and stop ramming unwanted legislation down our throats from backroom deals.
Was Congress listening? The answer is no, as a vengeful lame-duck Congress is in the process of forcing through its unpopular agenda, which includes more spending and mayhem, “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the Dream Act, the Start Treaty, cap-and-trade and the death tax.
For this lame-duck Congress to act like it has a mandate to do anything it wants, after its leadership was soundly defeated, shows they want to rule us and expect us to put up and shut up. Their arrogance is why their approval rating is at a record low.
What is a lame-duck session? Currently, any meeting of Congress that occurs between a congressional election in November and the following Jan. 3 is considered a lame-duck session of Congress. With confusing messages from the media, it is hard to keep in mind that the lame-duck session’s participants are members of the old existing Congress and not the newly elected Congress.
In recent years and especially today, both parties have abused lame-duck sessions by cramming through pet projects and agenda-driven legislation. The abuse of the 2010 lame-duck session is especially egregious and flies in the face of a clear mandate by the American people.
The 2010 lame-duck Congress has left many important and complicated issues to be dealt with in the 11th hour. Never mind that they are making backroom deals, haven’t read the bills and want to pass the Start Treaty that will put America in more danger. These issues should be dealt with in the next session of Congress, not rushed through in a short lame-duck session. On top of everything, this Congress is giving Americans the finger by staying in the Capitol at Christmas time and wasting time and our money.
America, we need change. It is time to do away with lame-duck sessions. The mockery going on now is ugly and an abuse of the electorate. What will it take to stop it?

Seriously . . . will of the people? What a tired cliche. There was no will of the people. The people didn’t vote. A subset of america voted. So if you want to argue that the subset that voted spoke, so be it.
However, I do find it funny that the state we are in, the district we are in didn’t have a turnover. So please, tell me how the representatives for YOU changed.

Dave we live in a representative democracy called a republic. If you didn’t vote you don’t count. If you are not eligible to vote you don’t count. Got it? Further because of the likes of nit wits like you, we still have the very idiots and criminals who bankrupted this state still in office and a governor from the same dopy party. Your ilk now has made California the number one state once again. But this time instead of being the number one economic growth engine, the number one technology center the number one education center, we are now the distinguished leader of bankruptcy, moral decay, ignorance, welfare, one party criminal corruption and most of all what NOT to do. Wow Dave, what a great accomplishment!
You idiot liberals ought to be proud of what you have done. You single handedly destroyed the greatest state in the union and stubbornly refuse to see it. Good job! You tried to do the same with the rest of the country but were outnumbered. Thank God! Now pack up and move back to your stupid idiot liberal New York and New England and leave my state alone. It was a good state and a powerful one at that until you dope smoking socialist showed up here 40 years ago. Oh, take your worthless kids with you. Better yet go to Europe, if they’ll have you. Seems the queens of nannyhood have finally awakened to the bankrupting, soul robbing and society destroying effects of the grand socialist state. But I’m sure that somewhere on this planet there is some place that will take you, oh ya, Venezuela! Adios amigo.

Does the word misinformed mean anything to you? It should.
Instead of a civil discussion you result to personal attacks. Woo HOO! Good job! Glad to see that you have NO substance.
So let’s try this again. I am sorry that I can not draw a picture to help explain this.
We are a representative republic. If you don’t vote, you still count. A child counts, a person in prison counts, even a angry person like you counts. We are all CITIZENS. Yeah . . . I know, a foreign concept, but citizens of the country count. See the REPRESENTATIVES represent CITIZENS not voters. Voters put them in office, but they still have to REPRESENT the citizens.
The rest of your rant reeks of a 85 year old man screaming at 5 year olds for walking on his lawn. Enjoy your bitterness.
