Santa Barbara children, one in his pajamas, scoop up grunion before bedtime Wednesday night, the first of four nights the fish are expected to run on Southern California beaches. They run later each night, and the runs coincide with the highest tide of the day. They are expected to run again sometime during a two-hour window beginning at 12:37 a.m. Saturday and 1:23 a.m. Sunday.
