SUMMARY:The 2nd Annual World Congress of Gene
DESCRIPTION:On behalf of the organizing committee, it is a great honour to invite you to attend the 2nd World Congress of Gene taking place in Guangzhou during December 3 – 6, 2008, with a theme of 'Decoding Life for Human Health'. \nThe tradition of this conference dated back to 3 years ago in Dalian, China (http://www.bitlifesciences.com/dnaday/index.html) which brought together 5 Noble Prize Laureates and more than 3000 participants to celebrate the discovery of the double helix. Following the successful outcome and encouraging results of the 1st World DNA and Genome Day, we are proud to announce the 2nd congress to continually promote the developments of gene science and technology. The aim of this conference is to build up an ideal platform to exchange ideas with your colleagues, to make new acquaintances and to familiarize yourself with the most recent science and technology in the flourishing filed of genome. \n\nThe program of the coming 2nd conference promises to be very interesting for both basic scientists and executives who are working in the field of gene science and technology, they will offer complete updates of recent gene developments and present the latest results from genetic studies. Separate sessions will target basic science, frontier technologies, industrial applications of gene technologies and business development of gene science respectively. Speakers will present state-of-the-art knowledge in this fast moving field. These sessions will certainly encourage the development of new scientific ideas and initiatives of gene.\n\nGuangzhou, the South Gate of China, is a prosperous metropolis full of vigor. The main development programs in Guangzhou are Bioindustry, especially Gene Science. Nowadays, there are many professional industry bases around the city, like 'Guangzhou Science City', 'Guangzhou Bio-island', 'Genomic port', 'Baiyun Industrial Cluster of Bio-Tech', 'National Bioindustry base in Zhujiang River Delta' etc. \n\nAfter the scientific program, you can join the tech tour in Guilin, China, which is a historical and cultural city as well as a tourist wonderland of world fame entitled as 'the No. 1 scenic spot under heaven'. Hope you enjoy the colorful Chinese cultures in the pleasant season.\n\nIt is not an easy job to put together a conference of such a magnitude, and we would like to thank all the members of the organizing committee and participants for their supports and hard work during the past years in ensuring a top-quality technical program integrated with rich social activities.\n\nWe hope that you will join us in Guangzhou and look forward to welcoming you!\n\n______________________________\nThis Event Downloaded From a Helios Calendar Powered Site

SUMMARY:T\'ai Chi Chih
DESCRIPTION:About T’ai Chi Chih\nAs we grow older, two of our main concerns are maintaining strength and balance. T’ai Chi Chih, which can best be described as a moving meditation, is suited to help with these concerns because, unlike exercise, it requires little effort. Moving with softness and continuity is the goal. We have in each of us a life force called the Chi. The gentle, repetitive movements found it T’ai Chi Chih can help remove the blockages that keep the Chi from flowing naturally. As we free ourselves from the tensions brought on the stress and worries of our daily life, a sense of stillness and well-being can emerge.\n\nT’ai Chi Chih is accessible to anyone who can stand, walk or sit. Chairs will be available for those unable to stand. Once the 19 moves and two postures are learned, the entire practice takes about 45 minutes. Initial classes may be a bit shorter because only a few movements are taught at a time. Each class starts at the beginning so feel comfortable joining in even if you miss some of the first classes. Read more about T'ai Chi Chih here: http://www.taichichih.org/\n\n______________________________\nThis Event Downloaded From a Helios Calendar Powered Site

SUMMARY:Of Life and Loss: The Polish Photographs of Roman Vishniac and Jeffrey Gusky
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition brings together the photographs of Roman Vishniac, made in Poland in the mid 1930s, and the images of Jeffrey Gusky, made six decades later in many of the same areas. Vishniac’s forty-four photographs portray the crowded, vibrant communities, pulsing with life: men, women and children in their homes and schools, at their trades and in their streets, in markets and at prayer. Gusky’s images, in equal number, capture the austere landscapes and vestigial remains – the markets stilled and the streets empty.\n\n______________________________\nThis Event Downloaded From a Helios Calendar Powered Site
