Goleta Woman Accused of Having Sex with Teen Boy

A 41-year-old Goleta woman has been arrested on suspicion of unlawful sex with a teenage boy in 2008.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Drew Sugars said a Goleta man reported on Nov. 11, 2011, that his now-adult son had recently hold him about a sexual relationship he had when he was 17 with a woman in her 30s.
Sugars said an investigation revealed that Lisa Ann Rowell and the teenager were engaged in a sexual relationship in the spring of 2008.
Rowell was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Bail was set at $50,000.
The investigation is continuing. Anyone with any information about this case or any other involving Rowell is asked to call 805.681.4150 or the Sheriff’s Anonymous Tip Line at 805.681.4171.

What a bunch of crap. The kid was 17, old enough to be a Marine. Now he’s just a 21 yr-old baby, boasting to his big baby daddy who is some kind of prude.
The Sheriff’s department has time to investigate this kind of stupidity? Sounds like a waste of taxpayer money.

I’m with Rambler. Does anyone seriously think a 17 year old boy has been damaged by this? More likely any damage was done by the rediculous reaction of the parent. And shame on the Noozhawk for posting the woman’s picture and name. She may have behaved foolishly, but why try to ruin her life over this unproven allegation?

Rambler, I wonder if you would feel the same if this relationship involved a 17 year old young woman and a 30 plus year old man? A lot of people do view these things differently based on the teen’s gender, and these views tend to arise from antiquated and sexist notions about agency, consent, and sexual behavior of each gender. Whether you believe that consent laws should apply differently or equally to male and female teens, then instead of criticizing law enforcement or the boy and his dad, it would be more productive if you worked to change the law regarding the age of consent. Perhaps you’d rather sit at your computer passing judgment and complaining online than actually doing something, but FYI: without a change in the law, this is a crime and officers of the law are required to treat it as such.

It’s a “crime” that happened 4 years ago. Tell me this 21 year old man is a victim. Now a young woman will be labeled a sex offender, with the benefits that accrue.
Sorry, but the Sheriff’s department should have filed this complaint under “Things To Do When Pigs Grow Wings”

Rambler,
Hold on to your seat, I agree with you 100%. Whether the 17 year old is a girl or boy, this is is a nonsensical waste of time by our law enforcement zealots.
