A shooting outside a fast-food restaurant on Milpas Street early Sunday preceded a short police pursuit that ended when the suspects’ vehicle overturned in the Milpas roundabout. Two suspects were arrested.

About 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Santa Barbara police responded to reports of an altercation in the parking lot of Jack in the Box, 501 N. Milpas St. at Haley Street. Police Sgt. Lorenzo Duarte, a department spokesman, said brothers David and James Allison, both of Santa Barbara, were inside the restaurant when they made a derogatory comment to a man who had just entered the store. The 27-year-old man, whom Duarte declined to identify, responded to the comment and the two men chased him outside, where they began to assault him. Family and friends of the victim came to his defense and, after a brief fight, the Allisons left in a pickup truck, striking a parked vehicle as they drove off, Duarte said Monday.

According to Duarte, the suspects were heard to say that they were going to get a gun. Moments later, the pickup truck returned to the parking lot and the witnesses who had called police fled just as officers were arriving at the scene. One witness ran to the officers to report a man with a gun, Duarte said. Police said James Allison ran into the restaurant as the truck’s driver, David Allison, fired several rounds from a pump-action shotgun at witnesses. Both men got back in the truck and drove off.

Another police officer arriving on the scene saw the suspect vehicle heading toward him on nearby Bond Avenue. Duarte said the officer drew his weapon but had to leap out of the way as the pickup truck sideswiped the patrol car. The suspects then fled southbound on Milpas Street at a high rate of speed, but the driver lost control and the truck flipped on its side in the Milpas roundabout at Highway 101. Just before the crash, Duarte said, officers observed the driver throw away the shotgun, which was recovered by police. Both suspects were pinned in the wreckage and officers stood guard as Santa Barbara firefighters removed them.

David Allison, 31, was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he was treated for a severe injury to his right arm and released. He was booked at Santa Barbara County Jail for attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, felon in possession of a firearm, conspiracy, terrorist threats and felony DUI. James Allison, 30, was booked at County Jail for attempted homicide, felon in possession of a firearm, conspiracy and terrorist threats.

Detectives handled the case and determined the incident was not a gang-motivated assault, Duarte said.

Neither the victim nor any police officers were injured in the shooting, Duarte said, but the police officer whose patrol car was struck received a minor arm injury in that collision. The gunfire shattered the storefront window of Omar’s Travel, 502 N. Milpas St., police said, and the window remained boarded up Monday morning.

Where are the details?  Who was the victim, the police officers involved, the suspects?  What business on Milpas Street had its storefront shattered?  More importantly, how are the police planning to respond to this gun violence?  No statement from the police chief?

Yes, where ARE the details? Can we please have thorough reporting, not brief PC sketches??? Information is power but this serves no one.

LOL. It’s tough to imagine exactly what Concerned and Native expect from a start-up, free online newspaper like Noozhawk. Hmmm… maybe you could try turning on the TV? Keyt named both suspects last night. Don’t bother with the News-Press, the only paper in town that actually charges to read both the hard copy and the online edition. Wendy and Travis apparently have yet to hear that this event happened. Also tough to figure why you dimbulbs are so angry with Noozhawk and the cops and imagined “PC” slants. Could be you have your agendas all set before the bare-bones local news organizations have time to learn or report the story in detail. You two sound as if you can’t wait to read Travis Armstrong’s next poison pen column. It is a sure bet he’ll rant and rave about this situation that his paper hasn’t covered as well as the freebies have done.

Not the first time a roundabout has helped to catch a fleeing criminal.  Happens almost every month in England.

Sure, if they are white and here illegaly, deport them by all means! Especially if they are felons. There is no double standard here. Say something else that is stupid.

What does Chief Sanchez expect when he can’t keep track of the whereabouts and activities of felons and parolees? The simpler question might be, why are felons roaming the streets? Is it our catch and release system of law enforcement and justice? It’s liberal America, everyone deserves a second chance to shoot someone!

Passing-By - don’t speak for me. I am simply pointing out that ALL media is afraid to call a spade a spade anymore (and no, you dope, that’s NOT racist.) The Independent didn’t do any better, and I’m sure the former News Press (RIP) won’t either. Why is it we can’t SAY anything anymore? Yup. It’s because of people like you, Passing By, who would find something to wank about instead of considering the content. So now we have to DUMB DOWN the content so it can’t possibly OFEEND someone. Lemme tell you, if bullets come flying MY way I’m gonna be offended. And I want a DESCRIPTION of the suspects, beyond their sex. (White/Black/Latino/Asian!) Passing By - please keep going. For the rest of us who live here: until “news” can be “news” again, we the people are screwed.

Wow! First off, this was not gang related. The Allison brothers are not gang members. Did anyone notice the felony DUI charge and make the connection? Dumb drunk guys with a lack of better judgement. The fact that they already have a criminal record (hence felon in possession of a gun) shows that their judgement is already impaired. Add lots of alcohol to the mix and a disaster is in the making. The victim is lucky that the shooter was a really lousy shot. I am glad that everyone walked away for this situation with no serious damage done.

First of all do you people committing on these local men know anything about them.  One is been out of jail for the last 6 years and has a wife and kids.  Has had a good job and been an asset to the company he worked.  The other brother has been doing the best he can and surviving in his home town, that all you rich people have taken over.  Both have been struggling with alcohol problems and make some very bad choices that evening protecting each other the best way they knew how.  This is called love for your blood brother. Some of you idiots know nothing about loving one’s own brother.  I know it not the typical way to show love but if it’s all you know then you just do it.  They were very wrong in their action but don’t judge or you to shall be judge.  Pray for these men and ask God to forgive them for there action.  We love you David & James.

LOL, again. Take a deep breath, sbnative! I think your assumption that the lack of detail in the original story was due to PC issues was off the mark. It was a 3:00 AM event that some other local media missed completely but that Noozhawk posted very promptly. If you want credible journalism like the late, lamented NewsPress used to provide then you have to allow reporters time to gather facts and make sure they are accurate. I wasn’t speaking FOR you at all, I was speaking to you. And I never mentioned racism, you brought up that topic.

Mr. and Mrs. Allison must be so proud of their two outstanding sons, both felons, and two of the dumbest brothers I have ever seen. I’m sure that the parents made excuses for them just like “Don’t want to be judged”, is doing. Now lets see if brotherly love will protect these morons in prison.

So was this gang related???.....i think NOT…. they look like white trash to me, maybe they should be deported to England.  On one of the comments below the writter wrote that they are trying, and they are family men, than why aren’t they at home with their wife & kids.  They are not trying at all…..how do they get the money to buy guns and booz? They have a long rap sheet of criminal activites….I’m glad they were caught!  Where are all the rasist NOW?????

I fully agree with sbnative that the media are cowards afraid to offend anyone and so are the politicians. i would add to the information we need is whether or not the perpetrators should even be here, meaning should they maybe be in jail or back in Mexico?

sbmom the only judgement that is impaired is that of whoever let these idiots back on the streets and can’t keep track of them. Here they are with alcohol and firearms and priors on each.

And then we have the understanding forgiving apologists like “Don’t want to be judged” who are the true dangers to the City. Let anyone do anything because they are stupid and oppressed and poor victims of the “rich” and alcohol the poor babies. Loving one’s brother should NEVER include endangering others you fool.

These two idiots belong in jail. I’m glad no one - but them - was hurt but I want to point out that it could have been a lot worse. The same weekend as SB’s shooting by parolees, look at the tragedy that happened in Oakland by another former guest of the State of CA.

And did you hear Gov. Moonbeam bemoaning that the state releases these criminals and then can’t keep track of them? Isn’t that the Atty Gen’s job?

Hey Don’t want to be Judged! I do know these losers and I would hardly call them a credit to our society so why don’t you stop making excuses for them??  If David is such a great family man what is he doing shooting up a Jack in the Box at 3 a.m. instead of being at home with his kids??  I guess that shows you where his priorities lie.  People need to stop making excuses for their actions and man up for what they have done.  As far as I am concerned let them both rot in jail…

I think everyone needs to chill.  I’m pretty everyone involved was hammered from the bars.  And a gun was only brought in cause the ALlisons were outnumbered once outside Jacks. Stuff just escalated from there. What was fist fights 10 years ago with David, now is gunplay.  He wasnt like that before he went to prison.  Prison make him worse for sure. It made him harder and crazier as there really is no rehabilition….just lock em up and only the strong survive, then get released back to society.  Things are even harder after being institutionalized.

No, these men are not monsters or white trash. It’s so easy for “concerned citizens to post negative comments about people that they do not know. David is a loving father with 2 beautiful daughters and a wife. James is a loving and caring son, brother, father and uncle. Both are hardworking and have struggled with issues but were working toward a better life. We will not let them be portrayed as trash or losers.

You can’t be serious.

For the sake of discussion, let’s say that, contrary to eyewitness accounts, a guy walks in to Jack in the Box in the middle of the night and starts harassing the brothers Allison. The brothers, being loving fathers and caring sons, try to leave the restaurant to defuse the situation but the guy chases them outside and starts to beat up the two of them. Let’s say that happened and that is enough to trigger a snap reaction by these two gentlemen, who are neither monsters nor white trash.

So they get mad and make a threat to get a gun. OK, maybe that’s justified. If that’s what happened. Contrary to eyewitnesses.

But here’s where I’m a little skeptical. The boys didn’t stop there. They hit a car while they drove off. Then they returned. Then one brother runs into the restaurant looking for the victim—I mean the assailant. Then the other brother pulls out a shotgun and fires it at the victim—I mean the assailant—as he’s running away. Then they both get back into their truck and speed off. Then they try to run down a police officer! And they hit HIS car. Then they speed a mile down Milpas Street (were all the lights green?). Now maybe all of this is a fog for these two solid citizens, who are still bewildered that they would have been so unfairly attacked while they were dining on their Teriyaki Bowls.

But they were thinking clearly enough to know they needed to get rid of the weapon that would have placed them at the scene.

Now maybe these two dimwits are more moron than monster but this seems like a pretty easy case for the DA.
