Citrix Online Establishes Scholarship in Computer Engineering
Citrix Online will partner with the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara to encourage more young people to pursue a college degree.
By establishing the Citrix Online Innovator Scholarship Fund, Citrix aims to support Santa Barbara County students interested in computer engineering.
The $2,500 award is a scholarship for an undergraduate student with financial need who will pursue a degree at a four-year university.
“Scholarships help talented students excel in their education and in their career, creating technology that benefits all of us,” said Liz Werhane, internal communications manager for Citrix Online. “Citrix Online is committed to supporting education. After all, the company’s founders had ties to UC Santa Barbara, and it has continued to innovate with employees drawn from a highly talented pool of graduates in computer engineering.”
Colette Hadley, executive director of the Scholarship Foundation of Santa Barbara, said: “We are pleased to join forces with Citrix Online. We commend our corporate partners who are helping support the next generation of business leaders. Employers benefit by utilizing the Scholarship Foundation to manage their scholarship funds, while students and families benefit from the generous philanthropy of local businesses.”

I appreciate Citrix’s gesture, but it seems like such a small amount considering the size of Citrix and their profits combined with how much a first year of college (including living expenses) costs these days. Also, many UCSB computer science and engineering students end up working for Citrix (and working hard I might add, contributing to Cittix’s success and profits), so it’s in their interest to see that quality students pursue those degrees. C’mon Citrix, you can pony up a little more scholarship money than that!

Who would want to be a computer engineer when they can get a government stimulus job?

It’s a nice gesture, but this should be an embarrassment for Citrix, especially when they are the ones most likely to benefit. After the millions they invested in unnecessary building improvements and remodeling (completely gutting the interior of every building they touched and re-building with luxurious unnecessary embellishments and landscaping on the exteriors) before they moved into their Goleta Campus (employee park gym etc.) they couldn’t afford to fully fund ONE student? This should be about enough to cover beer money for four years. I think they would be better off not bothering if this is supposed to be P.R.

I would be embarrassed to be offering *one* $2,500 scholarship if I were Citrix. Ten $20,000 scholarships would be good PR move. One $2,500 scholarship is not a good PR move.
