A Nevada couple walked away without injuries after their single-engine airplane crashed Friday at the Santa Barbara Airport.

The Santa Barbara Fire Department responded to a report of a downed aircraft at 12:48 p.m. Crews found the aircraft, a 2006 Cirrus SR209, in the grass area east of runway 15.

Initial reports indicated that the plane was attempting to land when the pilot lost control of the aircraft, fire department spokesman Rich Griguoli said in a news release.

He said the couple were uninjured and refused medical treatment.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate.

The aircraft is a Cirrus SR20, not “SR209”

KEYT described the aircraft as a “single engine Cesna.”  Not all single engine propeller planes with reciprocating engines are Cessnas, and they certainly aren’t Cesnas.  Lazy reporting from KEYT.  I can only imagine whoever wrote that for KEYT just assumed it was a Cessna because they aren’t aware of any other manufacturers.

Just like “Band-Aids,” “Coke,” and “Kleenex,” those who don’t know, lump it into what they only recognize.

And who cares about the “9” at the end of the SR 20. A bit finicky on that.  (Is that a 2 blade prop in the pic or are two blades buried or broken?)

And who says porpises are only aquatic? Check out the bent tip on the blade.

Brilliant response by Rich Griguoli of the Santa Barbara fire Dept. It`s good to see the service is in good hands.
