Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider celebrated her 40th birthday at a party Thursday night at SOhO Restaurant & Music Club thrown by The Fund for Santa Barbara and the Environmental Defense Center.

The fundraiser party was an idea knocked around by Schneider and Geoff Green, executive director of The Fund for Santa Barbara, and was packed with well-wishers.

“You only turn 40 once, and it’s a good time to celebrate,” Schneider said. “I’ve always been a fan of The Fund for Santa Barbara and the EDC.”

Schneider said she wanted something simple — with no speeches — and a fundraiser was the perfect idea.

“I’m grateful they threw the party and let me be the excuse,” she said.

No speeches…That doesn’t sound like the mayor of Santa Marborg to me!

Since it was a fund-raiser, who got the funds? The article didn’t state; only inferred EDC and Fund for SB. But how much did the mayor’s re-election campaign fund get?

Amazing how people who look for negative things to say about Helene Schneider can find them - even if they aren’t there!  I refer to the first comment:  re Mayor Schneider’s not having given a speech, and how uncharacteristic that is:  as if a mayor should never give speeches?  And the second comment, which snidely hints that Mayor Schneider had a birthday party to raise funds for her re-election campaign:  so what about the first sentence could this writer not understand - “Santa Barbara Mayor Helene Schneider celebrated her 40th birthday at a party Thursday night at SOhO Restaurant & Music Club thrown by The Fund for Santa Barbara and the Environmental Defense Center.”  What malicious intent is responsible for such twisting of obvious facts?
