Welcome to the Hawks’ Nest
Since Noozhawk launched a little over a year ago, our merry band of ink-stained newspaper refugees has grown to appreciate the advantages of what basically is a 24-hour conversation with our readers. In Fossil Media, the communication is one-way: Theirs. Not so on the Web, where we’re actually asking you to help us tell our community’s stories, and you’ve eagerly embraced the concept. Thank you for all of your assistance and contributions.
Having these conversations strictly by e-mail, the story comments section or, God forbid, the telephone, has its drawbacks, however. It’s inefficient and we each can quickly lose track. We think an easier way is through our new staff blog, The Nest.
All of the Noozhawks will be posting here and we likely will be adding some of our regular contributors, as well. The idea is to have a place on our site where you can go to get quick reports, snapshots of what we’re working on, answers to your questions, or even our own requests for information or expertise. You’ll get to know us better and we think it’s beneficial that you have a little more insight into how we operate.
On the other hand, maybe you don’t want to know how hawk sausage is made.

And, again, another strike for innovation and forward thinking. You guys are the best. Now that I am no longer in California physically, your site has kept me apprised of how things are for my old and dear friends in Santa Barbara. This has been a trying time, and my heart aches for those who have lost their homes. I cannot think how difficult this has been for you and my prayer is that you will find comfort as you rebuild. Thank you to Noozhawk for letting me be a part of the story, and not leaving me uninformed of the plight of my former neighbors and friends.

With 210 + homes needing building permits, who will try to improve their ungreen, non-energy efficient houses by braving the permitting process- often a multi-year ordeal with endless regulations ans continued sniping by “neighbors” who never knew you existed before you applied (but so welcomed by the review agencies). The depressed, shaken victims are being discouraged from even re-inventing their lives through better design- victims of enforced mediocracy AND annihilation at the same time. Can the City and County really streamline the process ? Stay tuned.
