Local Elected Leaders Endorse Assembly Candidate Das Williams
Only a little more than a week after officially announcing his candidacy for the 35th Assembly District, Santa Barbara City Councilman Das Williams announced Wednesday that he has received a number of early endorsements from local elected leaders, including:
» Santa Barbara County Supervisor Salud Carbajal
» Santa Barbara County Supervisor Doreen Farr
» Santa Barbara Mayor Marty Blum
» Santa Barbara City Councilman Roger Horton
» Santa Barbara City Councilman Grant House
» Santa Barbara City Councilwoman Helene Schneider
» Ventura County Supervisor Steve Bennett
» Former Ventura County Supervisor Susan Lacey
» Ventura City Councilman Brian Brennan
» Carpinteria City Councilwoman Kathleen Reddington
» Carpinteria City Vice Mayor Al Clark
» Goleta City Councilman Ed Easton
» Goleta City Councilman Michael Bennett
» Goleta City Councilwoman Margaret Connell
» Oxnard Mayor Pro Tem Andres Herrera
Supporters cited Williams’ history of experience on a variety of key issues such as education, protecting the environment and balancing city budgets, as well as his deep roots in the district and his track record for leadership.
“I am endorsing Das Williams for Assembly because he will be this community’s strongest and most effective advocate in our state’s Capitol,” Blum said. “As somebody who has worked with Das on many key issues affecting our region — from balancing city budgets to protecting the environment, from public safety to education — I know firsthand that Das Williams has the right balance of experience, innovative leadership and is focused on finding solutions to our toughest challenges.”
Carbajal added: “Hardworking Californians here and everywhere are struggling right now. Das Williams understands our community and what people are going through. He is exactly the type of leader we need in Sacramento, he will fight for us.”
“I am truly honored to have earned the support of so many of our area’s local elected leaders,” Williams said. “These endorsements show that this community is ready for new leadership that will put California back on the right track by bringing a new energy, a renewed commitment to Democratic values, innovative problem-solving and personal responsibility that is missing in Sacramento’s broken political system.”
Assembly District 35 is currently represented by Assemblyman Pedro Nava, who is termed out in 2010.
Williams grew up on the Central Coast. In 2003, he became the youngest person ever to be elected to the Santa Barbara City Council, and was re-elected in 2007.
He has worked as a teacher, a policy aide for former Assemblywoman Hannah-Beth Jackson, and a community organizer working to stop the development of a Wal-Mart in Ventura and enact local living wage laws in Santa Barbara and Ventura.
Williams serves on the Peabody Charter School Board and is a national board member of the National Organization for Women.

Quite a list of endorsements, Das. Too bad none of them has anymore experience running an assembly district than you do. I’m telling you, we already have an inexperienced president; this is not a precedent for every overly ambitious ladder climber still wearing diapers to go out and run for office. Get some mileage, preferably doing something (no a community organizer killing a Wal-Mart in dirt poor Oxnard doesn’t count), before you do like Obama and run on charm and a smile. Cheers!

Das Williams and the Progressives: Racial preferences, more gangs, open borders and higher taxes. What a great combination.

Das,
Most of us support you. There are a few right wing extreme folks from the Greedy Old Party that comment here on a regular basis. Please do not take them seriously.
Keep up the great work!! What they do not seem to understand is that you are in the mainstream of Santa Barbara and they are not.

Personally, I’m registered as Decline to State (Independent), and would vote for decent Democratic candidates. But I am repelled by Das Williams’ (and Grant House’s) thug-hugging and pandering to the illegal immigrant community. I believe a significant number of true liberals (not Leftists) feel the same way.

Das Williams is a great public servant and yes he is very bright, thoughtful and has plenty of good experience. If you don’t think so you haven’t been doing your democratic duty. Perhaps make a little room between the cage fight and other entertainment and instead watch a few hours of local government hearings live, recorded or online. The local “press” wont get you the full flavor. You have to watch for yourself.
And since AN50 doesn’t consider Das experienced enough perhaps Das could be considered a fresh face. Bringing the experience of our President into this conversation is a real stretch but I wouln’t mind hearing about a recall petition for the now experienced Governor Schwarzenegger.

Good call on Arnie, Don. Guy’s been a disappointment right out of the box and for the same reason I believe Obama and Williams would be. You almost have to be a veteran political insider to deal with the amount of corruption, lying and cheating that goes on in government (you know takes one to know one). So I’m reticent about the lack of cred Das has in going into this. As far as watching local hearings, good God man that stuff is like taking a shot of Demerol! I’ve been to those things, its easier to watch freaking paint dry, Donny! Most hearings do nothing but remind me why we have failed as a species. Ok, enough of that, I don’t have the goods on Das that some commenter’s have eluded to, so I only know the man from those asinine hearings you want people to torture themselves with and my personal meetings with the man. Donny Sacramento will chew this guy up and spit him out just like it has every other fresh face that has gone before. Das needs to get some real scars before he goes up there or I swear they’ll just pimp him out like a two bit whore. Mind you I still disagree with him almost 100% politically, but that’s no reason to send him off to battle in his skivvies, ya dig?

Let’s remember that the $10 million city deficit happened on Das’ watch. Of course, that didn’t stop him from giving raises to his union contributors. AN50, I think your analogy of Das is wrong. He’ll be the guy pimping out us taxpayers….again.

Das is a young, inexperienced yet arrogant, tax and spend Democrat with little regard for such basic government obligations as rule of law, public safety, and financial responsibility. Remember, his pre-elected “experience” was as a staffer for taxin Jackson. His list of endorsers is no surprise - we should be rid of the whole lot of them. And BTW, I am not a Republican, nor am I greedy. But I would like to see responsible mature local government for a change, and not just a bunch of special interest types.

Yes Dasssy Wasssy dont’ worry about those mean old right wingers….keep up the illusion that you are something new and special. We’re just a few little harmless right wing extremists out here…you know the God and Guns type, just a bunch of soon to be extinct behemoth knuckle draggers, no brains, not highly evolved like you intellectual progressives. Nothing to worry about Boowhahahahaha

I know Das Williams and I have worked for him; he is simply not an honrable person. A Goleta community leader after meeting Das in his race for County Supervisor said of him; “He is just nit trustable.” I don’t disagree with Das’s politics I object to the man
