Landing at Mono Lake

A killdeer prepares to land near the shore of Mono Lake. In the past, killdeer have also been called chattering plovers or noisy plovers, and the babies hatch fluffy and can run immediately. Killdeer get their name from the sound they make excitedly and far-carrying, “killdeer.”
