Daniel Petry: Obama Speech Nothing More Than a Childish Rant
I recently treated myself to a form of self-abuse, and it wasn’t even pleasurable. I watched President Barack Obama’s entire State of the Union speech. I saw a petulant man-boy arrogantly pontificating to the nation. At times, it was akin to seeing a helpless mother watch her spawn throw themselves to the floor and scream and thrash about just to get their way. I could have held my tongue if it were only a spoiled, rotten child — but it wasn’t. It was the president of the United States, for heaven’s sake.

I can certainly put up with a president who is a fair-minded progressive. What I saw was a megalomaniac take off his disguise to reveal the hideous ego that has been covered with the thin veneer of a carefully manufactured intellectual.
Folks, we have seen this type of person throughout our lives. A playground bully. A demagogue. The teacher’s pet who smiles at you and then stabs you in the back. An intellectual, with no experience, who has never run a business, been responsible for a payroll or managed anything larger than a checkbook. A man who has the resume of a college-educated, sign-carrying ACORN member picketing some poor slob’s house. A front man who has been able to fake his way into the White House. A man who is governing against the people.
He wants to turn you against all business, vilify the banking industry, and pit the people against investors, the poor against the middle class, the Senate against the House, the House Democrats among themselves, and on and on. He is divisive and can’t unite. He’s a failure as a leader.
When I hear a brat tell me he is “just stating the facts,” I only hear a petulant, immature boy who dreads audience participation. When he looks at his polling numbers, I can just see him ranting in the White House, throwing a tantrum, screaming that they just don’t understand that it isn’t his fault, that don’t they know he is the Chosen One.
The amazing fact here is that this child’s party has total control over the Senate and the House. He can get anything he wants. If not, then he has only one person to blame — himself. His hacks effectively rule as modern-day divas who can’t resist telling us commoners, “Let them eat cake.” Or, as he says, “Just sit down and shut up.” He thinks he’s better than you or me when, in fact, he is far from it.
Yet he still doesn’t get what he wants. So what does he do? He makes whiny speeches. He is angry with everybody. He hides behind his office and fails to engage his opponents or answer questions. Unless, of course, they are planted with reporters. He points fingers, denigrates those who say no to him, uses the power of his office to intimidate, blames others for his perceived problems and issues one executive order after another to get around these ignorant meanies.
He is an overindulged boy lashing out at everyone around him for having the gall to deny him his destiny. All the while making speeches that are so panderingly narcissistic that we have gotten to the point where we count how many times he says “I.”
I watched the face of Vice President Joe Biden and could clearly read his mind as he sat there and thought, “My God. What have we done? Will someone please get me out of here?”
He uses the coward’s tactic of attacking people he knows have too much class to strike back. That’s exactly what he did with the Supreme Court justices when he attacked them for actually protecting the First Amendment. How dare them? And then when a man of true intellect simply shakes his head and mouths to himself the words “not true,” he unleashes his Kool-Aid drinking minions to try to malign this judge and the Supreme Court. It frustrates him that there is a branch of the government that will thoughtfully consider the real constitutionality of anything he proposes.
I watched Sen. Charles Schumer, following the dear leader’s example, actually get up, lean over and angrily clap in the faces of the Supreme Court judges. I could almost hear that fool yelling, “Yeah, take that, you bastards!” True dignity and statesmanship on display.
As the camera pans back to him, Obama assumes his classic Benito Mussolini pose, nose high in the air, and begins his lecture where he left off by blasting 70 percent of the American public for not buying the global warming hoax.
When a branch of government refuses to heed him, he, like a petty banana republic dictator, simply says to heck with you, I’m just going to do it by executive order.
The last eight minutes or so of this Fidel Castro-like lecture was dangerously dysfunctional. Here’s an example: “Now, I know that some in my own party will argue that we can’t address the deficit or freeze government spending when so many are still hurting, and I agree, which is why this freeze won’t take effect until next year.” What?!
At this point, Congress actually begins laughing at him.
Knocked off his rhythm, he goes on to say the dumbest thing I have ever heard, and I quote: “When the economy is stronger. That’s how budgeting works.” Huh?
Disdainful laughter breaks out. It was embarrassing to watch, and sad that the world was now seeing how low we have let the presidency go.
At this point in the speech, the wheels are starting to come off. The teleprompter will not save him, and he seems to be off script for the final portion of this harangue. His ego can’t take it, and you actually see the anger boil up behind his eyes. He starts to sound delusional. He rambles on about how we’re going to drill for oil and we’re going to have nuclear power plants. What? Coupled with a comprehensive cap-and-trade program, we’re going to become energy independent? This man would no sooner allow his country to drill and build and become energy independent than Hugo Chavez would allow dissenting TV stations to broadcast inside his country.
Remember that this man said he wants to fundamentally transform America. There is no way he’s going to do anything but follow the words and advice of Saul Alinsky, and that is, “I will not quit!”
He doesn’t appoint lobbyists? Red State put together a list of lobbyists after he said that line: William Lynn, Eric Holder, Tom Vilsack, William Corr, David Hayes, Mark Patterson, Ron Klain, Mona Sutphen, Melody Barnes, Celia Muñoz, Patrick Gaspard and Michael Strautmanis. I have counted 24 in his administration!
Then he says, “We have to ban the outside influence of lobbyists.” Is that why Andy Stern is the most frequent visitor to the White House? And he is often quoted as saying, “When I want to talk about immigration, I talk to Andy Stern and the SEIU. When I want to talk about health care, I talk to the SEIU. Your agenda is my agenda.”
He wants to stop outside lobbyists? Give me a break. Those evil Wall Street firms such as Goldman Sachs? Timothy Geithner’s assistant is a lobbyist for Goldman Sachs. Really? How about Holder? He was a lobbyist.
“I want to work openly, to give our people the government they deserve.” Really? C-SPAN, anyone?
So, how do we handle this guy? Well, we can’t send him to his room, but we can certainly come close. We emasculate him. Make him impotent, ineffective and like we did with Jimmy Carter, just ignore his rants. We can effectively spank him, like we did in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts. We elect representatives and senators who will block all of his hair-brained schemes.
And hopefully, just hopefully, we can weather out the damage he will do to this country during the next three years. Then we can elect a responsible Democrat or Republican. God help us all.

Wow! Nice rant! Not necessarily meaningful, but certainly a verbose , if inaccurate rant.
Those who forget the past are condemend to repeat it, but there will always be some people who hate to be reminded of how we got here. Ie a complete failure of conservative economic policy.
Look at jobs. We lost 2.5 million jobs in 2008 alone, a direct result of eight years of Republican control. If they had they answers then why did they never deliver them while in power.
Even Alan Greenspan admits that despite his long held belief that markets could and would regulate themselves, they shockingly failed to do so.
How much of the current deficit is the result of lower governmental revenues due to the imploded economy that deregulation brought us?
It is hard to believe that criticism of current economic policy from a group that almost brought the world to economic colapse, should be taken seriously.

Poor guy. I’m pretty sure the President wasn’t in any way acting childish. I couldn’t get past the first sentence in your amateurish, infant like rant. Your upset, I understand, your party is full of 18th century thinks as yourself that is full of followers. Your a follower sir. you sit back with your do nothing but sling mud attitude and wake up everyday thinking things are going to be different. If you would invest as much energy in helping this country as you do hating the President then America would be that much better off. Instead you waste your time digging for the next hit job.
If this doesn’t make the comments then the writer of this article doesn’t even follow the rules of the web site.

Actually Rich you have failed to learn from history. From 2006 on the Dems controlled congress. Bush was not a conservative, he was a dem lite. And I have read Mr. Petry’s posts before and he is definitely not a Republican. But then again you are stuck in the past.
P.S. the Chinese who had been buying out T-bills to the tune of 80% are now down to 4%. And they have said that is because of this past years’ fiscal policy. But I say, let’s spend ourselves into oblivian.

Obama IS an absolute fraud. The most satisfying thing to witness since his coronation is that the majority of the liberals now dislike him as well. More war, more oil, more nuclear power and more nuke bombs. What’s not to like.
HA! And I thought Bush was bad… This guy IS an absolute fraud.

He gave lip service to the need to create new jobs. Yet, he claimed he had rescued the economy in 2009. He claimed to have saved 2 million jobs with the stimulus bill. The CBO does not agree with his numbers. But the number of jobs lost on his watch exceeds 3 million. Watch out for the Bush boogeyman under the bed. And I have to correct Mr. Petry; he referred to himself over 100 times. Gotta love the ego.

It is funny to see how easily righties are hoodwinked by their own leaders. If overgrown government and federal debits were really at the root of their discontent one would think they would want find the root of yhe problem . The most massive growths of size of government and debits have occurred under GOP administrations starting with Reagan and snowballing ever since . Instead of gullibly swallowing the kind of swill Petry specializes in , why not spend a little time looking things up ? Get the facts , otherwise you let myths become your understanding of history .

There is no difference between the Obama-Pelosi multicultural left and the McCain-Graham-Palin-Fiorina corporatist right. They both believe that Americans are fundamentally defective, and can only be saved by massive insourcing of people and outsourcing of jobs. Yet these same defective American should somehow be able to build nations out of Afghanistan, Iraq and Haiti.
When the Paleos say our policy is “invade the world, invite the world” they are absolutely right.
Is there a single politician who believes America should be a nation with well-defined borders and a single flag and language? Is there a single politician who has the guts to state American values are perhaps superior to those of Saudi Arabia and multiculturalism is bunk? Not Obama—he literally bows before the Saudi “king”. Just saying “one language, one flag” gets you vilified as a racist—ask Bob Kellar.

Daniel, I know of some good anger management classes. You would do really well as a guess commentator on the Glenn Beck show.
The point that Obama is trying to make is that it would be great if both parties would try to work together, for once and for the good of the country. Daniel’s rant only demonstrates that is asking too much of some because they believe this to be some kind of good versus evil, win versus lose. The only losers in all of this will be the American people if we do not find a way to solve some of our very large problems together.

GeeWillikersWally. Your name should be revisionisthistory. Facts are obviously not in your repertoire, but what else is new.
Obama’s address was poorly thought out, not terribly well executed, and, in the end, tremendously ineffective.
It was also terribly inappropriate when he openly encouraged belligerent reaction against the Supreme Court with the Justices sitting in the chamber. It was a cheap shot, and multiple constitutionalists and scholars believe it may have violated the spirit embodied in our government’s commitment to the separation of powers. But then again this guy has shown time and again that he believes, like Chavez, that only he should be making the rules. He is a dyed in the wool leninist with an incredibly huge messianic complex.

What is your point? It happened under Reagan and Bush (it’s all their fault) so it’s ok if we continue to do it? It’s ok if we spend enough to increase the debt to higher than under all presidents combined? It’s ok if we do Bush times three?? What a childish argument - you really must be “the Beav”.

That’s hilarious. The Republicans (and C-Span)have been shut out of everything, their ideas sidelined. It is only after Scott Browns win that Obama decided to go to the GOP - to chastise them for not “working together” by rubber stamping everything Obama wants.

The libs can’t stand anger - when it is directed against them, we must be “civil” and “work together”.
They act as if anger is some kind of disease ,like ADD. The same kind of disease that founded this country.
“What a rant” take a lithium”, How dare you shake your head and mouth “not true” when we lie? Take anger management classes! “he really did lose it”
Just wait until they are out of power. Hell hath no fury…
Then the inevitable predictable comparisons to Fox News, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin (ad nauseum) - the name calling (neocons- they love that because it sounds like “conman”) - and the next strategy when faced with truth - attack the messenger (or author in this case).

Well done article hitting a majority of the foolish behaviors of President Obama. Though I should say devious rather than foolish behaviors. I follow Rush Limbaugh regularly and I agree with him that Obama is not merely incompetent and inexperienced. I see him as calculating and his actions are purposefully directed to move money and power OUT of the private sector and into the public sector. I see him as increasing government control of and intervention into the private sector as a method to weaken each are as individuals, groups and businesses to expand the influence that he, and his cadre, can exert on us all.

There was a councilman from Santa Clarita who often repeated a quote from Teddy Roosevelt, that this country was only big enough for one flag and one language. When someone told him that sounded “racist” he replied words to the effect “Well I guess then I am a proud racist”.
Needless to say the lefties and race mongers jumped on that remark, twisting his words, excluding the prefecatory dialogue and began quoting him as having said he was proud to be a “racist”.
The zeal with which these fanatics seek to play the “race card” everywhere and for anything is palpable. It is also proof positive of the complete lack of ethics and substance in the so called “progressives” that have taken over the Democratic party. The days when Democrats of substance and ability held office are gone, replaced with the glib speech making, image dominated, empty suit “politicians” like Obama. All talk, no action!

The problem here is that Obama was raised as a candidate with too much praise and worship. Like any child with too much self esteem, he is spoiled by the attention and now demands it as it is waning. It will be his doom, like any high school football star or child star who must eventually face the real world, and realize it does not revolve around him.

In addition, many GOP ideas were incorporated into the bill. Please do not parrot Fox News it really makes you seem very misinformed. The childish behavior in this country has consistently come from the right where the belief is the louder you yell the more you win.

It’s actually regrettable that Noozhawk chose to publish such a mean spirited, one-sided column.
It’s one thing to offer strong opinions. It’s another to publish a column primarily comprised of characterizations and accusations unaccompanied by supporting facts or data.
Freedom of the Press and Freedom of the Press are important rights and both Noozhawk and the author of this piece are operating well within those rights.
However, one would hope that with the exercise of those rights would be greater exercise of responsibility. This column did nothing to improve the public debate, nor did it burnish the reputation of Noozhawk.
We can do better.

To give you an example of how this guy is not only an empty suit, you only have to remember his speeches to see that he is also a bald faced liar. For example he advocated the use of nuclear power, domestic drilling, clean coal, capital gains tax cuts, spending freezes, and called on Congress to “tighten their belts” just as American families are being forced to do.
Pure B.S. In his recent 3.5 TRILLION budget he nixed all funds for nuclear storage. Uh duh, what a surprise. Now I guess that since I really don’t like this guy and disagree with everything he stands for, I’m just a California redneck. But let me see. Hmmm I have this little old nuclear reactor generating electricity in my backyard and I will have to shut it down if I can’t store used material. Bush. I realize it is a lot easier to bash President Obama than talk about his accomplishments. I know this has been said before, but when I hear someone that angry at Obama is it because he is a black president??? Also President Obama has only being in office for one year!! The people you should be upset with for not accomplishing things is the House and the Senate. As Ombama said, stop with the politics and get something done for the American people.

Obama’s speech had a readability score for an average 8th grader. Two grades lower than Bush’s addresses and the historical average for modern presidents. And the average Obama voter still couldn’t follow it.
The Flesch-Kinkaid formula is used to measure the readability of a particular text. The formula was developed in 1948 by Rudolph Flesch, an Austrian author, writing consultant, and supporter of the Plain English Movement.
A Smart Politics analysis of nearly 70 State of the Union Addresses since the mid-1930s finds the text of this guys speech to have one of the lowest scores on the Flesch-Kincaid readability test ever recorded by a U.S. President.
But then us rednecks need it simple, yes?

All politicians fudge on their promises. But this president manages to transcend the normal political exaggeration and dissimulation. Whereas past executives shaded the truth, Barack Obama trumps that: on almost every key issue, what Obama says he will do, and what he says is true, is a clear guide to what he will not do, and what is not true. It is as if “truth” is a mere problem of lesser mortals.
1. Obama now rails against a pernicious Washington and its insiders: ergo, Obama controls Washington through both houses of Congress and the White House, and wants to expand Washington’s control over the auto industry, health care, energy, student loans, transportation, etc.
2. Obama bashes the Supreme Court on weakening public efforts to curb campaign contributions. Therefore, we know Obama has done more than any other president in destroying public campaign financing by being the first presidential candidate in a general election to refuse public funds — in confidence that he could raise a record $1 billion, much of it from big moneyed interests on Wall Street.

So Richard you fall in to the “just sit down and shut up camp”, good to know. Here are some facts.
Obama calls for a freeze on government spending and deplores deficits. Hence, we know that the possible $15 billion savings in some discretionary spending will not affect the Obama record budget deficits that will continue to grow well over an annual $1.5 trillion a year — as Obama piles up the greatest budgetary shortfalls in any four-year presidential term in history.
The president calls for the Guantanamo Bay detention center to be closed within a year of his inauguration, and Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the architect of 9/11, to be tried in New York. Accordingly, we know that Guantanamo won’t be closed within a year and KSM won’t be tried in New York.
Obama issues four serial deadlines in autumn 2009 for Iran to comply with non-proliferation accords. Presto — we know that Iran will get the bomb unimpeded by U.S. opinion.
Obama promised an end to earmarks and lobbyists in government — of course, we assume, then, that lobbyists will be ubiquitous among his presidential appointments, and there will be thousands of earmarks.
Keep tweaking these guys Mr. Petry.

“I know this has been said before, but when I hear someone that angry at Obama is it because he is a black president???”
That’s about the lowest most thoughtless ignorant accusation I have ever heard. Really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Conversely to your low-life accusation, is Obama above reproach because he’s black? Is being black an excuse now? If I did not vote for him because I disagree with his policies, and I do not agree with his policies, am I a racist? I thought we were supposed to be colorblind, which means we give him the same scrutiny as any other color president? Is it possible that you like him only because he’s black? Seems much more likely.
I am sick of you racists constantly pulling the race card. You and Chris Matthews: “for an hour I forgot he was black”

Yes it is, because he hasn’t accomplished anything, duh. Is it possible that you feel so guilty about being white that you have to prove you’re not a racist by excusing everything he is doing to destroy the country because he is a black president?

“President Obama has only being in office for one year!!”
“The people you should be upset with for not accomplishing things is the House and the Senate.”
Soo.. I’m confused. Has anything been accomplished or not? He hasn’t had time to accomplish anything (only a year) yet we should be talking about his accomplishments?
The House and the Senate can be blamed for NOT accomplishing anything, but not the Holy One? (because hey - he’s black don’t you know)
From the content of your post I have to conclude that Obama has accomplished nothing, but Congress is to blame, because Obama has not had time to be blamed and .. he’s black so how can you possibly be angry about it you racists! I guess ?!?

DEAR NOOZHAWK:
I LOVE YOU FOR YOUR BELIEF IN FREE SPEECH AND DEMONSTRATING THAT YOU DO NOT CENSOR SPEECH BECAUSE OF IT’S “TONE”! FREE SPEECH INCLUDES SPEECH THAT IS “NOT NICE” “MEAN SPIRITED” whatever these babies want to call it when they don’t always have it their way.
Like the neo-coms that they are - they always wish to suppress speech that is opposed to their beliefs and their fearless leaders.
Mao, Lenin, Stalin, Saddam Hussein, currently Chavez, Kim Jong -Il did not like “hateful, mean spiritied” speech directed against them either - to the point of imprisoning and mass murder of their opponents.
So in the interest of free speech and the Constitution that the neo-coms want to ignore and revise,
PLEASE KEEP PUBLISHING MR. PETRY’S FEARLESS ARTICLES!

That’s right sb native. When you don’t like the message shoot the messenger. Outside the confines of your little Santa Barbara world of extreme liberalism there is a reality that you refuse to understand. Now on to some other facts.
Obama promises to be a tax-cutter. So we know that vast new taxes will come through revised income tax rates, caps lifted off payroll taxes, Cadillac healthcare charges, and a variety of surcharges.
Obama warned that if another stimulus were not passed, unemployment would reach double-digits; hence, we were assured that the jobless rate would reach 10% and going higher.
Obama calls for bipartisanship and an end to finger-pointing. Of course, then, he will begin and end nearly every speech with attacks on George Bush and the prior administration.
I could continue ad nauseam, but you get the picture. So why does Obama serially tell untruths, mislead, and do the opposite of what he promises?

Mr. Petry has a right to his views. They’re fully consistent with his values, which appear anchored in the first year of the Rove-Cheney-Bush-Greenspan era.
From that perspective, listening to a presidential speech from a Harvard Law Review
editor, who taught constitutional law at Milton Friedman’s old University of Chicago
digs, might indeed have been a trying task.
Interestingly, Petry and those who agree, or disagree, with him, exemplify Obama’s
recurrent theme - the failure of civility in public debate and discourse.
The idea that listening to a brief talk from someone smarter, better educated, and
carrying more responsibility than he did was such an unbearable trial for Petry is
revealing.
But so also was the unwillingness from so many readers to try to understand and
appreciate where Petry is coming from, and why, on many subjects, his concerns
are shared by many Americans.
This isn’t a “bad” by Petry. It’s part of a much larger, scarier national trend.
Last summer, when Obama began to stumble badly on health care, a senior WSJ
editor exulted in print, “Maybe he really will fail!”
Think about that. A top national writer, hoping the brand new president of these
United States “will fail”.
Politics and ideology set aside for a moment - recognizing we sincerely do not all agree on many issues - how many citizens really hope or want any president to fail?
Can our trouble beset Republic prosper when our elected leaders trip, and we don’t
offer them a non-partisan hand to get back up, but try to trip them down?
Mr. Petry has earned his Montecito lifestyle reward. He has a right to his views. We
are fortunate that he’s willing to modestly share his opinions. We need not agree.
If Nancy Pelosi won’t be inviting him over for coffee any time soon, there’s always Andy Granatelli.
Let’s just hope that a few of us who seem so scared or angry pull back for a second,
and reconsider what they are doing to help America, and this community, overcome
these tough times we’re passing through. Besides shooting spitballs at those we do
not understand or agree with.

Artsgirl; You are the epitome of what has become of the progressives. You complain about those who bash Obama for his understandable inability to accomplish anything (he was and is unqualified) but you were no doubt one of those that began bashing the last president Bush the day he took office starting with the “he stole the presidency”, “he was a liar”, “He was just a pimp for Haliburton”, etc. etc.
Then, when Obama is criticized for tap-dancing with the arrogant one party Pelosi/Reid/ Congress in it’s attempts to jam unwanted programs down the throats of unwilling Americans (while spending astronomical amounts to be repayed from the future generations) you play the “race card”.
That has become the hallmark of the liberal/progressives who seized cntrol of the Democratic party, when all else fails, play the “race card”, then project blame on someone else, engage in childish name calling and make unfounded accusations.

So why does Obama serially tell untruths, mislead, and do the opposite of what he promises?
Here are two brief reasons. They are complementary, rather than mutually exclusive.
He does this because he can. Obama, from college at Occidental to Chicago organizing, has never been called to account. He was always assured that his charm, his ancestry, or his rhetoric alone mattered, while his record, actions, and accomplishments were mere footnotes. He channels our hopes and dreams and need not traffic in reality. We, the people, like the media, have tingly legs and believe the president is “some god,” and therefore need not question the charismatic face on the screen.
Obama is a reflection of an era of liberal academic postmodernism. There are no absolute facts; truth is only an illusion in the eye of the beholder. Reality instead is relative, and predicated on the basis of power. Ergo, what others say is true is simply a reflection of their race/class/gender/religion/cultural privileges. Speaking “truth” to power means simply opposing those who, you deem, have more advantages than you and yours.

Oh Richard, are you there. Here is “So why does Obama serially tell untruths, mislead, and do the opposite of what he promises?” Part deux.
Obama is a neo-socialist who believes the ends of social justice justify most means necessary to achieve them. As a philosopher-king who knows what is best for ignorant lesser folk, who can’t possibly appreciate all the ways in which he works and suffers on our behalf (Cf. Michelle’s “deigns to run”), Obama reluctantly must employ Platonic “noble lies” to achieve the common good: OK, we don’t understand ObamaCare and therefore fear it and the way it is packaged and sold; but once it is forced down our throat, we will come to love — what is good for us.
Obama is a narcissist, who believes that his reality is our reality, that his rules are our rules. If the king, the autocrat, the heart-throb, the prophet, or the messiah says something is true, then facts and reality adjust accordingly. Facts and corrections are boring. And if confronted with contrary evidence, the self-infatuated simply smiles with the assurance that the problem is others’, not his.
And it is, sort of.

It is interesting how similar the rants about Obama and ultra leftist mirror comments posted during the Bush era where the left wasted their time on name calling rather than working for their agenda.
It is also amazing the degree of anger voiced about Obama and I would say the same about commebnts regarding Bush during his presidency. Extreme anger usually seems to be driven by fear and usually is non-productive to effecting change.

Petry displays an inability to dwell in reality so extreme as to bugger belief. Let me cite some examples.
He calls Obama a coward for speaking his opinion about a recent Supreme Court ruling. So, when Reagan and Bush criticized Supreme Court rulings he did not like, were they also cowards?
He says 70% of American’s don’t accept the fact of global warming. He is factually wrong.
He accuses Obams of being a “petty banana republic dictator” in spite of the fact that Bush issued more executive orders when he couldn’t get his way legislatively than any other president.
Here is something all of you can easily check. Petry QUOTES Obama saying, “When I want to talk about immigration, I talk to Andy Stern and the SEIU.” OK, here’s your challenge. Put this sentence into Google (including the quotes) and see what you get. Exactly ONE hit, which is this post.

Looking at Daniel’s qualifications I would not want him to be my representative, especially given his extreme imbalance on issues, inability to have a civil discussion which includes listening and most importantly his serious anger management problems. The John Wayne mindset is not a responsible way to govern. Daniel, I know it is hard to believe but you are no longer in the military. Come to think of it if you were still in the military Obama would be your Commander and Chief and maybe then you would give him the respect he deserves as President of the U.S. I have a very diverse set of friends and the term ‘boy” especially pointed at a person that is half Africian American is degrading and not the behavior I want from any representative or mature adult. You need to learn how to Petry read or maybe just plain read and put aside that big race card. The article uses the analogy of Obama as a man-boy engaging in childlike tantrums.
The use of “boy” is not an attempted racial slur, but then your ilk are always trying to find something to call “racist”. Most of us “honkies”, “red necks” and “crackers” don’t know the hidden inuendo in any use of the word “boy” in any context, especially when dealing with someone like you who is just dying to play that race card every chance you can!

Nice try Petry Watch, but if you read above you will see that Petry refers to Obama as a man boy because of his behaviour, not his race.

“emanating from battered pickup trucks with beer cans falling out and Confederate flags waving as they race down dirt roads in Mississippi .”
Is that a bigoted statement or what? Everyone in the South is a redneck with a confederate flag? Does that show a person who generalizes?
Funny how anyone complaining about racial slurs are the true racists and most often white, liberal, and guilt ridden.
“For an hour, I almost forgot he was black” Chris Matthews commenting on the State of the Union address.
Obama’s success was due in part to his “light-skinned” appearance and ability to turn on/off his “Negro dialect.” Harry Reid
I don’t hear half as many complaints and accusations from blacks, unless they are professional race baiters like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson who make a living off of stirring the race pot and turning up the burner.

Thank you for your thoughtful article. Obama has shown himself as the tyrant many people suspected him of being all along. To paraphrase Tammy Bruce, progressives are the new fascists of today. God help you if you disagree with them. Hopefully the voters can do to Obama what they did years ago to the other mis-guided socialist liberal, Jimmy Carter.

It’s always stunning to encounter full-face the bizarro, up-side-down world of the extreme Right. Is there a common reality from which people of good will can work for the benefit of the people of this country?
All we can do is keep trying.
I came to political consciousness pondering the hamstringing of Clinton by the Lewinsky affair, which inflicted the collateral damage of subjecting the private lives of every citizen with political ambition to microscopic inspection and, because of the “public person” exception to libel laws, to the malicious inventions of propagandists and rumor-mongers. THAT has certainly been a positive contribution to political discourse!(of which this column is a great example.)
Then we had the physical interference with vote-counting in Florida in 2000, with no prevention by local law enforcement, followed by the completely unprecedented “Bush v Gore” appointment, a spectacle that rivaled the worst of any banana republic.
Now we witness the manipulation by the highly-ownership-concentrated MSM of low-information voters to accuse the President of the most unlikely, demonstrably false and tragically comic of characteristics, such as being born in Kenya, being a Muslim, being a socialist, Marxist, whatever. The wilder the accusations, the more enthusiastically they are seemingly received.
Meanwhile, the wealth of this country has been “disappeared,” the well-being of its citizens is continually undermined, the oceans and atmosphere of our planet continue to be seriously threatened, and we have yet to focus on peak oil, ceding the transition to the next century to other countries. Guess that just follows from 8 years of control by the oil sector.
On the plus side, we will work through this. There is and will continue to be a lot of unnecessary pain, self-inflicted, but until we can focus a shared reality, we will remain severely handicapped. Perhaps our advances in understanding brain function will help us understand ourselves and recognize our priorities. Please read Tim Flannery’s “The Weather Makers” and “The Eternal Frontier” for some great reality of the evidence-supported kind. He’s a real priorities maker.

Dee, Ignoring the extreme right comments; you were going along nicely on the left side of the road (and fairly OK) till you veered into Kool-Aide Land with, “guess that just follows from 8 years of control by the oil sector.”
If you have not noticed the time for kumbaya moments of holding hands is long gone. This is a civil war between factions that are fighting for the soul of this country. Rational though your post is, you have made your decision.

Calling a man a boy is not racist, treating minorities like idiots that need the help of rich liberal white elites is. You liberals treat Hispanics the same way with your abhorrently racist bilingualism. Go read MLK’s Dream speech. Color blindness and character judgment are the hallmarks of an advanced society. Race bating, welfare states and affirmative action are the signs of an effete elite and a tyrant class, steeped in racism and a hatred of the poor. That is you Petry Watch and Local, the consummate intellectual narcissists too blinded by your own reflection in the mirror to see how things really are.

OpenSezMe wrote, “Now I know that this may be difficult for you, but bear with me. Go to the 5:33 minute marker in this video, play it out, and you will see your boy say those words exactly.”
Actually, he doesn’t. And he is not “[my] boy”. And anybody who would use a Beck clip to attempt to relate to reality can only be greeted with laughter. Beck? Really? Thanks for the chuckle.

SezMe, so you are saying that he did not say what was on the video clip of him giving a speech. Amazing. You are like Baghdad Bob, “There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!” So from now on we are going to call you Baghdad Bob. SezMe = Baghdad Bob. Good call.

= the guy accusing Petry of using sock puppet identities?
He always gives himself away when you mention Beck or Palin or Fox News because he is obsessed in his hatred of them, along with his childish bigoted simple minded arguments - (calling people racists who do not agree with him or his leader). The guy must be 15 years old.
To Sezme:
Glenn Beck! Sarah Palin! Glenn Beck! Sarah Palin!
LOL

Actually that was not Glenn Beck saying that Obama has the same agenda as SEIU and Andy Stern. That was OBAMA talking. Leave it to an intellectual giant like yourself to discredit Obama’s own words simply because they were presented on the Glenn Beck Show. Talk about denying reality! You have just made a fool of yourself once again and will need to invent yet another moniker.

That’s hilarious. SezMe does = Baghdad Bob. So true.
Hey Baghdad Bob, here ya go: “They’re not even within 100 miles of Baghdad. They are not in any place. They hold no place in Iraq. This is an illusion ... they are trying to sell to the others an illusion.”
Those Obama videos do not exist. That is a man in a costume dressed as the Dear Leader. This is an illusion. Baghdad Bob you are funny but it’s sad.

Actually, Baghdad Bob is in love with “the IDEA of Obama” - not the actual Obama. The Obama he wishes existed.

This guy is too much. He acts like he cares about offending blacks by using the word “boy” to describe someone acting like one, but doesn’t mind offending Christians by using the Lord’s name in vain:
“Jesus, is the sky blue in your world?”
He uses accusations of racism as a tool (of intimidation and suppression of opposition), and apparently only cares about offending.. er.. selectively.

HI guys and gals , I’m back to say sorry . Sorry I’m not sezme , not bob ,not local, not anybody but me . Sorry . I would like to reissue my challenge to all of you that like to use the term “boy” when addressing a black man . Lets all head down to a street corner in south central and start addressing the men there with that name . Better yet , lets go to an NFL game sometime and yell that at the players . Daniel could bring his beloved Glock and lets see what shakes out . Can’t wait for Dan to announce his candidacy so his bravado can be publicly displayed .

Petry Watch, go away. You’re just showing ignorance. You’re not talking to morons here, you’re only demonstrating that you ARE one, and apparently associate with them if this is what passes for intellect amongst your peers. You’re taking a tire and trying to tell us it’s a pretzel.
You have to put the word in context. The article is called “Obama Speech Nothing More Than a CHILDISH Rant”, hence the word “boy”.
The fact is that Petry did NOT “address a black man” he described the behaviour of a man who happens to be black.
He did not say this on a “street corner in south central and start addressing the men there with that name” .
He did not “go to an NFL game sometime and yell that at the players” .
You are really stretching to make this fit into some kind of racist mold and we all know why.
It is the cookbook and obvious liberal tactic of attempting to silence someone who disagrees with your views by intimidation and character assassination and it is obvious and old and it just doesn’t work anymore. People have seen too much of this and are on to the race game. Give it up.

Sigh. I could not have said it better. Subtle context is usually beyond the understanding of closed minded people. To people like Petry Watch, local, Sez Me, or Baghdad Bob, context is replaced by the regurgitated talking points of a historically bankrupt political philosophy. Keep in mind that even though these people only represent 20% of the population, they do scream the loudest. These are people that refuse to claim their identity. More about that later.
My supposed “rant” is based on first listening to this child’s speaking style from the past 200+ times he has spoken. That established the context of his patterns, and predilections to prevaricate. Once you have done this you can then lay the template of these patterns over his SOTU lecture. It also prevents you from being swayed by his rather prodigious capability to speak..though only facilitated by a well rehearsed teleprompter.
He is a talented shill. When he says one thing you can be sure that what will happen is precisely the opposite. As Aristotle said, the tragic flaw is that a leader cannot control his own inner shortcoming, which causes him to achieve the reverse of what he desired. I prefer a simpler explanation, he is a liar.
Oh, and I don’t know how the concept of me carrying a Glock got into this discussion or that it is even relevant (seems kind of agitatedly deranged); but first off I would never carry in California. If I did it would be my old favorite 1911 .45 service pistol. I prefer to stop a man dead rather than give him a chance. But that is only my preference.
I appreciate all the comments. It shows that we are all concerned about our nation and vociferously using our right to free speech. Daniel Petry

Dee; I hate to break the news to you and crumble your “political epiphany” but getting oral sex from an intern in the white house offices while married to a wife sleeping upstairs is not one’s “private life”, it is as public as one can get.
Petry watch; your challenge is spurious. There are neighborhoods where you don’t have to go there and call a black man “boy” to have problems. There are neighborhoods where anyone who is white may be in trouble just by making a wrong turn.
On the other hand how many neighborhoods could a black man go into and start yelling “come out you MF honkies” and only expect someone to call the police instead of taking a shot at him!
Your lack of rational thought processes is only exceeded by you overt biases and obvious inability to frame a coherent thought!

Kudos Daniel!
Great article. What amazes me is to read the harsh and consistent slant of your Santa Barbara readers. Actually, not that surprising - but I’ve been gone for 7 years. Smells of whiny entitlements that many seem to still expect.
So what y’all gonna do when Obama decides to open up the oil drilling off the coast?
So what y’all gonna do IF the trial for KSM’s 9/11 admitted attack is moved to SB rather than NYC? Heard cities around the country were lining up for this opportunity.
So what y’all gonna do when Census 2010 dictates that you are not among those to gain from the appropriations? And, trust me, they will! Keep a close eye on this new snafu!
So what y’all gonna do—- about getting real, really real! Settle down, have some TEA!
Up here we talk of the North and South. As in, we get everything north of San Francisco. Got to go have some TEA, myself!
