Daniel Goldberg announced via a YouTube video on Friday his intentions to run in the 35th District Assembly race.

Running as a Republican, Goldberg said he plans to support farmers statewide and protect the environment. A newcomer to politics, he wants to use his ideas to create policy that will effectively help the state of California, which he said has become an out-of-control roller-coaster with the average Californian at risk.

In the past several years, Goldberg has spent most of his time analyzing the issues that have enveloped the state of California.

“We built this mess out of giving away everything, but now that the money is gone, we can’t just take everything back, especially in this economy,” Goldberg said. “We have to find new revenue streams that don’t tax. We have to go back to innovating, back to what made this state so great.”

He said the biggest disaster to the state has been the hyper-partisanship that has gripped Sacramento.

Goldberg wants to promote democracy in the primary by offering Republicans and voters another choice when it comes to who represents them.

“You can never have too many candidates,” he said. “Just look at last year’s presidential election. We started out with a large group on both sides, and the voters decided on who was best.”

Goldberg’s main campaign theme is to help farmers both locally and statewide. He comes from an agricultural background, his family has grown flowers since the 1950s, and he feels that the average farmer has been pushed around too much. If elected, he said he plans to stand up for the farmers in his district and help them with government interaction.

Challenges facing farmers include water, land, regulation, labor and foreign competition.

“If you really look at the problems farmers are facing, you will see that they are problems that affect many people in the state,” Goldberg said. “Helping the farmers also means helping all the people that work for them and their families. It’s about more than just the farmers.”

— Daniel Goldberg is a candidate for the 35th District Assembly seat.

“Helping the farmers…”  Sounds like another open-borders RINO.

BTW, its the high-tech companies in the 35th district that generate tax revenue, not the plantation owners (I mean farmers.)  How on earth can sub-minimum wage ag-workers pay enough in taxes to support all the education and health-care needs of their children?  We need more 100K+ jobs in skilled trades and R&D, not more strawberry plantations. I would think a Republican would understand this, but I guess RINOs are no better than Democrats.

Now Stoker will have more than Susan Jordan to worry about.

Hey Dan ... since your byline is on this, one must assume that you wrote it. Why not just say “I plan… I spent most of my time analyzing… I want to promote Democracy.” It’s weird writing about yourself pretending you’re someone else. Or hire a PR person.

Exactly what percentage of 35th district citizens are farmers? Maybe this guy should move to the CentralValley so he could represent the constituency he resonates with. It’s just not the make-up of this district. Still I hope he gives Stoker a run for his money before he has to face the formidable Susan Jordan who should dash Das’s perennial hopes for higher office.

I do not know much about Goldberg but I am certain DAS would be bad.
For the good of the district and all of California vote for anyone EXCEPT Das Williams.
With his record of overspending we need to make sure he is never in public office again.
He should get a real job and pay his taxes.  In fact he should over pay his taxes to support the spending he voted for.

Its fine for others to enter in the race with ideas, but Mike Stoker has always walked the walk and has solid support among agriculture and business.  He understands them very well from his years of service and has the track record and their support to show it.

I see nothing “formidable” about Susan Jordan other than being the wife of a term limited entrenched politico.  Is she a “community organizer” too?

This state needs people who lead and can implement- not recite the typical tired rhetoric to get elected.  California needs Mike Stoker in the 35th Assembly to get us back on the path to legislative reality.

I will support ANY candidate that runs against Das.  Those of us who live in the City of Santa Barbara and have been screwed over by him, using us as a stepping stone for political gain, will gladly support anyone running against him.  I hope he loses this bid and is forced to actually obtain a REAL JOB, in private industry, and understand how true budgets work.  But then again, the only entity that would hire him would be ACORN.

Responding to some of the comments I believe in conservative principles. Large government has resulted in an unaffordable budget mess. More taxes will only prolong the economic crisis. A return to the truths of lower taxes and smaller government is the only way to rein in out of control government in Sacramento.
