The UCSB Campus Democrats on Wednesday announced their endorsement of Das Williams, candidate for the 35th Assembly District seat.

The UCSB Campus Democrats voted unanimously to endorse Williams.

Leaders cited Williams’ deep commitment to and understand of higher-education issues and service to the campus community.

“After carefully considering both Democratic candidates, we are pleased to endorse Santa Barbara City Councilmember Das Williams for the 35th State Assembly District,” said Amanda Wallner, president of the UCSB Campus Democrats. “Das Williams has been a huge supporter of Campus Democrats for years. He knows students, he knows Isla Vista, and I am confident that he will continue to work for us and with us in the state Assembly. Das cares about the students, and his commitment to UCSB is unwavering. The UCSB Campus Democrats are excited to have this opportunity to send a strong advocate for students to Sacramento.”

The UCSB Campus Democrats have hundreds of active members and are the largest Democratic club in the 35th Assembly District. The UCSB Campus Democrats are nationally recognized leaders in voter registration and were awarded Chapter of the Year Award in 2009 from the California College Democrats.

“I am proud to have the support of the UCSB Campus Democrats,” Williams said. “I look forward to continue working closely with the Campus Democrats and the UCSB campus community to make affordable, quality higher education a priority in Sacramento.”

Williams is running to succeed fellow Democrat and termed-out Assemblyman Pedro Nava in 2010.

What a surprise!  Students who don’t have jobs and live off their parents, grants and student loans supporting another ‘student’, Das, who has never held a private sector job, never been responsible for meeting payroll or creating jobs, and never represented us in Santa Barbara, just used us as a stepping stone for higher office.

Wow the naive gullible student vote? Das has the support of the unions and the 18 year olds. Really scrapin’ Das. Good luck, the rest of us see right through you.

Now if he had the endorsement of the college Republicans (the ones who actually think, instead of play “follow your friends”) I would be impressed. However, I’m not impressed.

Has Das ever stated what he would support in tax cuts?
Pension cuts?  Budget cuts?
I’d like to hear it!

Tax cuts? Budget cuts? Pension cuts? Don’t hold your breath - this is the union candidate. This is the guy that robbed the reserves to support affordable housing giveaways, high salaries and benefits for government union employees.

Global warming kook - check!
Social Justice socialist - check!
Pro education - check!
Nice suit closet - check!
Young energetic - check!
Full head of Hair- check!

The winning formula.

As long as he is all of the above, he doesn’t need care what you think about issues, he really has no opinion,  the issue is that he wants to be elected..

In response to Kids for Kids

What a surprise! Students who are working multiple jobs to meet the rising costs of tuition after years of negligence by state offering the private sector tax breaks while education gets funds cut and who live pay check to the pay check supporting a candidate that has consistently cared about not just creating jobs, but maintaining the dignity of the workers who do them. You cannot be pro-union and pro-workers without being concerned with jobs. An investment in students is fiscally much more responsible than short sighted tax breaks which don’t lead to new innovation. I worked 3 jobs at once while in community college before transferring to UCSB and yet arrived to find my fees hiked, friends dropping out due to not being able to afford the cost and then was told to advocate for my right to an affordable education was a privileged perspective. Why am I not considered a hard working tax payer when my three jobs were all taxed? I didn’t follow my friends to vote for Das - I’m trying to bring my friends back to this school by making education accessible and that’s why I’m voting for Das.

Campus Democrats aren’t naive - if we were we never would have won chapter of the year, we wouldn’t have been the margin of victory in the last election, we wouldn’t be sending people to campaigns all over the country to help them work towards real change and we wouldn’t have been a part of the largest voter registration drive of any school in the nation.

College students are a legitimate and influential part of this district and their support of the candidate who represents them best does not deserve ridicule. Students are hit very hard by these economic times because of the incredible rise in tuition and once they graduate they have to find a job, have no healthcare, and are thousands of dollars in debt.  If they believe that Das is the best candidate to support their interests, please respect that decision.

Yes as I said - those who support Das are the ones on the receiving end. Gimme gimme gimme. Das’ function appears to be taking money from me to give to those who haven’t worked for my money. If you can’t afford UCSB does that mean you are entitled to go on someone else’s dime? I worked through UCSB and paid my own way. It took me 6 years, but I did not expect anyone else to help me out. I did not consider it a “right”, it was a privilege.

“my right to an affordable education was a privileged perspective.”

We are raising kids with an entitlement mentality. You don’t HAVE a RIGHT to an affordable education any more than you have a right to an affordable sandwich, kid. Wait until you are on the paying end and can’t get ahead after college because you are working too hard to pay for those “affordable educations” or “affordable houses” for others. You will wonder why you even went to college. Then you will be sorry you elected the likes of Das. You will appreciate those private sector tax breaks (as if there really were such a thing) when you get into the real world and start a business or work for someone who could afford to hire you because of them.

“consistently cared about not just creating jobs, but maintaining the dignity of the workers who do them. You cannot be pro-union and pro-workers without being concerned with jobs. “

Show me a job that Das has “created” and tell me what he has done to maintain the dignity of workers, other than talk. NOT ALL JOBS ARE UNION JOBS! YES YOU CAN be pro-worker and anti-job if you tax the worker and punish the businesses that employ them! Did Das actually say he was going to lower tuitions? How is he going to even do that?

“once they graduate they have to find a job, have no healthcare, and are thousands of dollars in debt.  If they believe that Das is the best candidate to support their interests, please respect that decision.”

Hey! I am trying to save them here, I am not ridiculing them! Das is NOT the best candidate to support their long term interests. Tax and spend self-serving career politicians like Das are the REASON they will graduate with debt and therefore be unable to buy healthcare! Don’t fall for it!

Das may or may not be the best to support their short term interest’s now, but just wait until they have to pay back the debt he has incurred giving away our money to any special interests or group that will elect him! HE IS LYING TO YOU AND USING YOU, STUDENTS! This is NOT in your best interest! By the way, college Democrats do not represent ALL students.
