Local organizer/activist matriarch Selma Rubin turned 95 years old this weekend and Congregation B’nai B’rith threw her a birthday party that drew hundreds of her friends and fans Saturday, including local power couple Hannah-Beth Jackson and her husband, Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge George Eskin. With her trademark hats and oversize glasses, Rubin has been a tireless community leader on issues involving the environment, peace, social justice, civil liberties, health care, youth and seniors.
