At the 27th annual Cancer Center Walk/Run on Oct. 6, more than 800 participants raised $155,421. The benefit was hosted by the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara and Four Seasons Resort Santa Barbara. Funds are still being counted so the total could increase.

All of the funds support the Clinical Research Program and Patient Supportive Care programs at Ridley-Tree Cancer Center at Sansum Clinic. The Walk/Run has raised more than $3 million since its inception in 1993.

At the event, cancer patient and Ridley-Tree Cancer Center volunteer Patricia Mojarro was presented with the 2019 Julie Main Inspiration of Hope Award, given to an inspiring cancer survivor who exemplifies courage, perseverance and hope.

The Miracle Chefs had the largest team with 47 participants as of noon on Oct. 4, and Julie Main’s Team led by Main’s sister Lori Harris raised the most money, bringing in more than $19,000.

Karl Storz earned the Silver Cup, awarded to the team that raises the most money per person.

The event, held at Montecito Union School in Santa Barbara, included a 10K run, a 5K walk/run and a kids’ fun run. Participants enjoyed a complimentary breakfast provided by Four Seasons Resort Santa Barbara, and list of raffle prizes including a grand prize trip for two to the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai in Hawaii.

Through support from this event, the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center offers to patients access to a Clinical Research Program, which includes a global network of clinical trials that target a variety of cancer diagnoses, a benefit not afforded by all cancer treatment facilities.

The walk/run also benefits the center’s Patient Supportive Care programs, including a cancer resource library, genetic counseling, patient navigation, nutrition, wellness classes, music therapy and social work services. These programs allow the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center to provide patients with comprehensive, personalized resources and care to assist them and their families on their journey with cancer.
