Two people were injured Saturday when a vehicle veered off Highway 101 in Summerland, plunging down an embankment and ending up on its roof near the adjacent railroad tracks.
The crash occurred shortly before 8 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Padaro Lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Four people were in the Nissan sedan, and all were able to extricate themselves from the wreckage, Battalion Chief Brian Roberson of the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District told Noozhawk.
Two suffered moderate injuries, Roberson said, adding that crews used backboards, Stokes baskets and a rope system to bring them up to the highway.
They were taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, but their names and details on their conditions were not available.
Railroad traffic was halted in the area while emergency personnel tended to the patients and cleared the wreckage, but it was allowed to resume at about 9:25 a.m.
Crews from the Montecito Fire Protection District assisted with the incident, which was under investigation by the CHP.
