The Santa Ynez boys golf team is presented the CIF Central Section Division 2 championship plaque after shooting a score of 395 at Valley Oaks Golf Course in Visalia.

The Santa Ynez High boys golf team won the CIF Central Section Division 2 championship, shooting a score of 395 at the par-72 Valley Oaks Golf Course in Visalia on Wednesday.

It’s the first Central Section title for a Santa Ynez sports team and the first-ever CIF title for boys golf.

The Pirates were the only team to break 400. San Luis Obispo’s Mission Prep and Lemoore tied for second at 400. The Division 2 tournament had 14 teams.

Santa Ynez was led by freshman Von Gordon with a 75 and senior Rye Winans at 76. Senior Owen Hirth and junior Marcelo Andrade added 81s, while sophomore Brayden Mlodzik shot an 82.

Gordon and Winans qualified for the CIF Central Section Individual Finals at San Joaquin CC in Fresno on Monday.
