The thermometer reached 80 degrees at the Santa Barbara Airport on Tuesday afternoon, tying a 45-year-old record for the date.

The high temperature for the day, reached at 2:33 p.m., matched the mark set in 1975, according to the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

The normal high temperature for Dec. 8 in Santa Barbara is 64.

Cooler temperatures are expected through the end of the week, with highs around 70 on Wednesday, and in the low-60s on Thursday and Friday.

Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast into early next week, with no rainfall in sight.

Overnight lows should be in the low-40s through the period.

A High Surf Advisory will remain in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday, with waves of 5 feet to 8 feet along the county’s South Coast beaches.

“Surf will be highest on beaches with some westerly exposure, such as Rincon Point,” forecasters said.
