Abel Gonzalez, a former All-State football player at Bishop Diego, has been named the head track & field coach at the school, announced Athletic Director Aaron Skinner.
Gonzalez started coaching at Bishop last year, serving as an assistant track & field coach. He is also the head JV football coach.
“Coach Gonzalez is wise beyond his years,” said Skinner. “He is extremely organized, has a plan and understands how to execute his plan. He has great relationships with his student-athletes, and I am very excited to see how his program develops in the years to come.”
Gonzalez was a four-sport athlete when he attending Bishop, playing football, basketball, soccer and track & field. He played on two CIF semifinal teams in football (2012-2013) and earned All-CIF honors. In his senior year, he was named to the Cal-Hi All-State Small Schools Division second team.
After graduating from Bishop in 2015, he attended SBCC and played football there for two years. He transferred to Humboldt State and graduated in 2019.
