Golf: St. Joseph Edges San Marcos

Alexandria Peretiako and Cat Lefemine lead the Royals' charge but the Knights beat back the challenge.

St. Joseph hosted San Marcos in a pre-league match at Rancho Maria Golf Course in Santa Maria on Thursday.

The Royals’ team of Alexandria Peretiako (45), Cat Lefemine (48), Brianna Wiley (52), Sofi Castanon (57), Katie Blum (59) and Zaira Barbosa (61) combined for a team score of 261 but it was not low enough. The Knights’ Danielle Gillaspy (37), Marissa Gutierrez (49), Kelsey Wong (48), Lindsey Cora and Christy Mahan (55 each) and Danika Cochiolo (65) combined for a team score of 244. Gillaspy was the match medalist.

Peretiako, a sophomore, has been San Marcos’ most consistent golfer this year. Her 45 Thursday is a personal best; she has worked hard and it is paying off. Lefemine, meanwhile, continues to post scores in the 40s and is a natural team leader.

The Royals’ next match is at Santa Barbara Golf Club, where San Marcos will host Buena at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Noozhawk Asks: What’s Your Question?

Welcome to Noozhawk Asks, a new feature in which you ask the questions, you help decide what Noozhawk investigates, and you work with us to find the answers.

Here’s how it works: You share your questions with us in the nearby box. In some cases, we may work with you to find the answers. In others, we may ask you to vote on your top choices to help us narrow the scope. And we’ll be regularly asking you for your feedback on a specific issue or topic.

We also expect to work together with the reader who asked the winning questions to find the answer together. Noozhawk’s objective is to come at questions from a place of curiosity and openness, and we believe a transparent collaboration is the key to achieve it.

The results of our investigation will be published here in this Noozhawk Asks section. Once or twice a month, we plan to do a review of what was asked and answered.

Thanks for asking!
