Aubrey Sturgeon poured in five goals and had an assist, leading the San Marcos girls lascrosse team to a 16-2 non-league win at Saugus on Thursday night.

San Marcos scored the first four goals of the game and played some good defense all over the field.

“We connected well despite the wet conditions and our off-ball movement looked pretty good,” said coach Paul Ramsey. “We did not stand around in the rain, that’s for sure.”

Nine of 16 goals were assisted for the Royals, led by a career-high four helpers from senior Olivia Corrigan.

Defender Sofia Martinez-Tomatis made the most of some limited minutes on offense and netted her first hat trick.

San Marcos outshot the Centurions 23-7 and shot 69.6%.

San Marcos junior goalie Shana Friedenberg had three savess.

San Marcos improved to 5-3.

The rest of the season is uncertain as the Santa Barbara Unified School District canceled all athletic events and “non-essential” activities until further notice bcause of the coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s early to think of (Thursday’s game) as, maybe, our senior game,” said Ramsey. “I really hope it wasn’t our senior game and, if it’s safe enough for everyone to play, we resume after spring break.”
