Authorities have released the name of a pedestrian who died Friday night after being struck by at least one vehicle on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara.

The victim was 39-year-old Mark Richard McDonald, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department.

At approximately 6:15 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers and Santa Barbara firefighters responded to southbound Highway 101 south of La Cumbre Road.

McDonald was hit while attempting to cross from the center divider to the right shoulder, according to the CHP.

At least two lanes were shut down in the area, with CHP officers receiving reports of damaged vehicles stopped nearby.

Representatives of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department Coroner’s Bureau also were summoned to the scene.

One lane of traffic on southbound Highway 101 remained open, the CHP said.
