Authorities have released the name of the driver who was fatally injured over the weekend in a crash on Highway 101 in Carpinteria.
The victim was Tyson Santos, 56, of Thousand Oaks, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Train traffic was halted after Santos’ vehicle came off southbound Highway 101 at about 5 p.m. Sunday, and overturned across the nearby railroad tracks, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred after the 2005 Infinity FX 35 drifted onto the right shoulder while traveling through a left curve in the roadway, CHP Officer Shannan Sams said.
Santos then swerved to the left across both traffic lanes and struck the center median, before veering back to the right and losing control of the vehicle.
The Infinity came to rest on its side in some bushes near Padaro Lane.
Santos, who was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, was transported by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he passed away, Sams said.
