The name of the person fatally wounded by Lompoc police on Sunday night has been released.
Krys Brandon Ruiz, 26, of Lompoc, was killed during the incident, police Capt. Kevin Martin said Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, Lompoc police were dispatched to a report of a person walking northbound on H Street while carrying a handgun, police said.
The caller described the subject and told emergency dispatchers that the person was last seen in the alley between the 100 blocks of North H and North G streets, police added.
Officers responded to the area and located the subject.
There was a police shooting, and the person was fatally wounded and pronounced deceased at the scene, Lompoc police said.
Two veteran police officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave as is standard after a shooting, Martin said.
He identified them as Cpl. Andrew White, a 14-year member of the Lompoc Police Department, and Officer Mauricio Calderon, a 12-year member of the force with 25 years total in law enforcement.
The investigation into the incident is continuing, and Martin declined to provide additional details or comment on reports circulating in the community.
“We’re not going to get into any of that stuff. The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating. All of that will come out in their investigation,” Martin said.
As is standard after an officer-involved shooting, Lompoc police asked the Sheriff’s Office to investigate the police shooting.
