Authorities have released the name of the bicyclist who was struck and killed by an alleged hit-and-run driver over the weekend in Goleta.

The victim was Katherine Stewart Peden, 59, of Goleta, according to Raquel Zick, a spokeswoman with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred at about 10 p.m. Sunday as Peden was riding on Calle Real near Violet Lane in El Encanto Heights, about a half mile west of Glen Annie Road.

She suffered massive injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s deputies tracked down the vehicle to Isla Vista, and arrested Nicholas Todd Baker, 20, of Goleta, who allegedly was driving drunk at the time of the crash.

He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail, where he remained on Thursday, with bail set at $1 million.

According to court records, Baker was charged by the District Attorney’s Office with felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit and run resulting in injury or death, and an enhancement for fleeing the scene of a fatal crash.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Superior Court in Santa Barbara.
