The Providence doubles team of Ava Elwood and Sydney Whited stunned top-seeded Nina Wolff and Xiaxia Taylor of Laguna Blanca to reach the final of the Frontier League Individual Tennis Tournament.
Elwood/Whited, the sixth seed, took the semifinal match 6-4, 1-5, 10-6, handing the Laguna Blanca pair their first loss in league.
“It was deinitely an exciting match, and great as a coach to see them pull through,” said Providence coach Christina Klein.
In the other semifinal, Laguna Blanca’s Lucy Cao and Phoebe Stein outlasted Chloe Olsen and Mia Vandever of Providence 5-7, 6-4, 11-9.
“It was as close of a match as it can get,” said Klein.
Elwood/Whited will take on Cao/Stein for the doubles title on Thursday.
In singles, top-seeded Katherine Monroy advanced to the final by defeated Ava Vandever, 6-1, 6-2, while Alzen Depakakibo of the Owls beat Christine Venzor of the Patriots, 6-1, 6-2, setting up an all-Laguna Blanca final on Thursday.
Ava Vandever and Venzor will play for third place.
