A bicyclist was critically injured Friday in a collision with a vehicle in Santa Maria, according to the Santa Maria Fire Department.

Shortly after 5 p.m., personnel from the Santa Maria Fire Department, the Santa Maria Police Department and American Medical Response were dispatched to the area of West Main Street and Benwiley Avenue.

The patient was taken via Calstar medical helicopter to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment of major injuries, according to firefighters.

Santa Maria police officers were investigating the circumstances of the collision.
