Tyler Williams scored 24 points and hit a timely three-pointer down the stretch to seal a 59-53 victory for the Bishop Diego boys basketball team in its season opener at St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night.
It was the Tri-Valley League opener for both teams.
Kai Morphy chipped in 13 points for the Cardinals, who were playing their first game since the CIF State Tournament last year.
Sophomore Luis Fernandez hit a half-court shot at the second-quarter buzzer to give the Cardinals a 28-22 halftime lead.
Freshman Dillan Benner scored 18 points and Nolan Rice had 14 for St. Bonaventure, which was playing its sixth game.
Bishop plays its home opener on Thursday night against Moorpark at 6 p.m.
