Tri-Valley League leader St. Bonaventure jumped on Bishop Diego early and pulled away to a 73-54 boys basketball win on Tuesday night at the Brick House Gym.

Bishop closed the deficit to nine early in the fourth quarter before St. Bonaventure responded with a 10-0 run.

Senior point guard Riles Neff scored 27 points and Cristian Barragan had 19 for the Seraphs,  the 15th-ranked 3A Division team that improved to 4-0 in league and 12-7 overall. Bishop is 2-2 and 12-10.

“We fought hard but we allowed them too many easy baskets off situational things we have done all season,” said Bishop Diego coach James Coronado. “But the credit goes to them. I think they made us play worse because of their intensity and pressure. We let some things get to us that we have been improving on but against a great team like that, we have to be sharper than normal.”

Tyler Williams led the 5AA Division No. 12 Cardinals with 14 points and Kai Morphy added 13.

“We’ll learn from this, and we will definitely be back,” Coronado said. “I love the direction we are headed.  We just have to stick with the process.”
