Bishop Diego’s girls basketball team won its first game at La Reina since 2013, beating the Regents 39-28 on Tuesday.
Clara Macdonald scored 10 points and also played well at the defensive end, said coach Jeff Burich.
La Reina tied the score early in the second quarter before Mileyni Sanchez hit a three-pointer to put the Cardinals into the lead for good. Elliot Redkey made 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
“I was very proud of how hard our three post players battled. Lily Simolon, Galilea De La Cruz and Clara were the difference inside,” said Burich. “Our guards played great defense and did a nice job attacking on offense.”
Bishop (2-0) plays Carpinteria on Saturday at Carpinteria Middle School.
