Bishop Diego won its first tennis match of the year, beating Santa Clara, 11-7, on Thursday in a Frontier League contest.
“What a showing by all the players to make this team win happen for the seniors,” said coach Natlee Hapeman. “We have seen much success in the recent matches and wish we had more home games. This was a team effort and I am proud of all the ladies.”
Sophie Benoit swept her singles sets at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-2, 6-1.
“Sophie’s serve was right on and her strategy was on the offense. Her match was a pleasure to watch,” said Hapeman
No 2. Singles Samantha Kenney won 6-4, 6-4, 6-1.
“Sam is playing a more consistent game and her confidence is really showing through,” said Hapeman.
No. 3 Singles Nicole Borden also swept, 7-5, 6-4, 6-2.
“Nicole initially took one for the team and volunteered to be our third singles today. What a surprise she turned out to be. Her competitive spirit really showed through,” said Hapeman.
