Bishop Diego held off a Santa Barbara comeback and held on for a 7-6 victory over the Dons Tuesday.

The Cardinals built a five-run lead in the second inning, scoring on a single by Lucy Plowman, a walk by Jenna Hayes, a single by Chelsea Hayes, and a single by Amy Mancinelli in the first. They added two more runs in the second on a double by Jenna Hayes and a single by Mancinelli.

Santa Barbara’s comeback attempt featured RBIs by Alina Magdaleno, Alona Delgado, and Madison Benedict.

Mancinelli pitched five-and-a-third innings for Bishop Diego, allowing 12 hits and five runs while striking out three. Madeline Ferries recorded the last five outs to earn the save.

Daylon Donati took the loss for Santa Barbara.

A sure-handed Dons team didn’t commit any errors. Amanda Holguin made the most plays with six. Holguin also led Santa Barbara’s 15-hit attack, going 3-for-3.

For the Cardinals, Hayes went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the 13-hit Bishop Diego attack.
