Tyler Williams hit a game-tying three-pointer for Bishop Diego at the end of regulation, but Santa Clara drilled a triple with 10 seconds left in overtime to beat the Cardinals, 47-46 in a Frontier League boys basketball game on Wednesday in Oxnard.

Bishop had a chance at a game-winning shot but couldn’t get the shot off before the buzzer sounded.

Williams led the Cardinals with 10 points and Matthew Cunningham chipped in 10 points.

“Very proud of our effort tonight,” coach James Coronado said. “We went on the road versus a good team and we matched them blow for blow. We couldn’t get the stop we needed at the end.

“Our team played with heart and we played together really well for the first time this season So, although we are heart broken over that last shot, I am equally excited for our outlook during our league. This is only the first game, so buckle up. It’s going to be exciting.”
