Bishop Diego broke open a close game in the second half for a 67-46 home win against Thacher Tuesday to remain in first place in the Tri-Valley League.
The Cardinals’ Brian Lopez led all scorers with 18 points, including four 3-point shots. An all-around attack saw five Bishop Diego players scoring at least eight points.
“We really started to click in the third quarter, and I think those guys were playing well, but I just think our togetherness on defense and offense was too much tonight,” Bishop coach James Coronado said.
“If we control the tempo with our defense and look for the best shot on offense, we are a darn tough team to beat. The biggest thing I saw out there was our guys coming together as a team, rotating for each other and get everyone touches.
“It was beautiful basketball to watch. I was just a fan out there tonight, appreciating good basketball.”
Conor Kelly led the Toads with 14 points.
Bishop Diego is now 3-0 in league play, and 12-7 overall. Thacher is 1-1 and 10-2.
“When we share the ball like we did tonight, opposing teams cannot focus on just one or two guys,” Coronado said.
