Bishop Diego advanced to the CIF-SS Division 5AA boys basketball quarterfinals with a 65-58 win over de Toledo in West Hills on Saturday night.
The Cardinals used a 23-15 third quarter to open up a lead against the host Jaguars.
“I felt we were the better team, but we had to believe that thourselves in order to seal the victory,” said Bishop Diego coach James Coronado. “I thought our team asserted itself in the second half, especially on the boards where we needed it most.
“Every time I feel our team needs to grow in another direction, they always seem to answer the bell. Hats off to them.”
Matthew Cunningham led a balanced Bishop attack with 22 points. Tyler Williams, Bryan Trejo, Kai Morphy each had 11 points and Connor Streett added 10.
Bishop will host Estancia on Tuesday night.
