Callaway Winans, a three-year varsity golfer at Santa Ynez High, had a big week on the golf course as he won a best-ball tournament with his swing coach, Ryan Kennedy, and advanced to the semifinals of the 45th Titleist Match Play Championships.
Winans won three matches to reach the semifinals of the Ventura County Junior Golf Association’s Titleist Match Play at Buenaventura Golf Course. He was beaten by eventual champion Griffin Feldman, a UCSB recruit on Friday.
Winans started his week by winning the PGA Southern Section Northern Chapter Pro-Junior 18-hole event with Kennedy at Rustic Canyon Golf Course in Moorpark. They shot an 8-under 64 as a team and won by three shots. Kennedy shot 4-under to capture the pro section.
“I’m so proud of Callaway for representating our Pirates well,” said Santa Ynez Athletic Director Ashley Coelho. “I love that he never stopped grinding even though he was cut short his spring high school golf season. He is an incredible leader, athlete and, most importantly, student.
