Carpinteria won six doubles sets and Connor Gralewski went 3-0 in singles, as the Warriors opened their boys tennis season with an 11-7 non-league victory over Bishop Diego on Wednesday.
The shorthanded Warriors started the match forfeiting at No. 3 doubles and No. 3 singles to give Bishop a 6-0 lead.
Gralewski scored a pair of 6-4 wins over Bishop’s No. 1 Aaron Bush and No. 2 Brennan Kaufman.
Troy Zimmerman/Asher Pampel dropped only three games en route to three set victories at No. 1 doubles. Servando Campuzano/Nolan Martin also went 3-0 and only dropped five games total.Â
Bishop Diego got a 6-4 win from Bush over Lucas Martin in the first round.
“It was a classic case of two opponents grinding out marathon rallies every point,” said Bishop coach Pete Kirkwood. “At one point, I honestly thought everybody might finish three rounds before this set ends.”
