The doubles team of Jeannette Carrillo and Zahra Pornish gave up a 5-0 lead in their third set and fought off a comeback to win 9-7 in a tiebreaker, sparking the Carpinteria girls tennis team to a 12-6 win over Channel Islands on Tuesday.
Carrillo/Pornish went 3-0 on the day.
“To shut down that momentum and get to a tiebreak took a lot of determination and effort mentally and physically,” said coach Charles Bryant. “I was proud of their effort not to give up even after surrendering the big lead.”
Lexi Persoon/Mercy Torres went 2-0 together in doubles for the Warriors (2-2).
Sydney Endow had a strong day as she went 2-0 in singles, while Emma Lapidus battled long point after long point and went 2-1 on the day.
The Warriors play Thacher on Thursday.
