Malibu scored in the 72nd minute and held on to beat Carpinteria, 1-0, in a Citrus Coast League boys soccer match on Friday in Malibu.

“It was a back-and-forth battle with plenty of opportunities,” said Carpinteria coach Leo Quintero. “We did not capitalize and they did. Simple as that.”

Carpinteria fell to 1-1 in league and 1-7 overall.

“In this very competitive league, one must be able to sink the ball in the back of the net when the opportunity arises to have any chance at victory. Hats off to Malibu for capitalizing on their opportunity.”
