Carpinteria kept it close against Santa Paula before the host Cardinals pulled away to a 70-22 girls basketball victory in a Citrus Coast League.

Jasmine Gilbert and Hannia Hernandez kept the game close at 11-7. “However, turnovers plagued us throughout and we were not able to keep pace,” said coach Henry Gonzales. “We are gaining valuable experience in our efforts which will pay off down the road.”

Gilbert scored 12 points and Hernandez had nine for the Warriors.

Carpinteria (0-2) plays host to Bishop Diego on Saturday at Carpinteria Middle School at 7 p.m.
