Carpinteria dropped its girls soccer season finale to Nordhoff, 2-1, in a Citrus Coast League game on Wednesday night.
Dayne Wagner fed a through ball to Cydney Smolnikar, who stepped inside her defender and beat the goalkeeper for Carpinteria’s lone goal.
“We continued to battle but were just coming up short everytime,” said coach Charles Bryant. He praised the play of Ashley Verdusco, Zahea Hamadi, Erika Estrada, Yaritza Santes Rosales, Aly Springer and Martinique Greeves.
Carpinteria finishes at 2-14-3 and 0-8-2 in the Citrus Coast League.
“Again, it was a very good team that just could not pulll out many wins,” Bryant said. “We were always competitive and always fighting. I am proud of our girls for their heart and character throughout the season.”
