Hannia Hernandez scored on a breakaway layup to give Carpinteria a three-point lead with less than 20 seconds to go and Grace Verdugo grabbed a huge defensive rebound at the other end and made a free throw that gave the Warriors a 51-47 win over Nordhoff in a Citrus Coast League girls basketball game on Wednesday.
Hernandez scored 23 points, including 10 in the third quarter that put the Warriors ahead 40-31. Gabriella Graham added 14 points.
Carpinteria improved to 2-3 in league and 5-9 overall.
