Carpinteria girls tennis dropped into second place after losing its Citrus Coast League finale to Nordhoff by one game. The teams tied 9-9 in sets and Nordhoff prevailed 66-65 on total games.
“That was very tough to take,” coach Charles Bryant. “But even tougher was the injury we suffered from one of our senior doubles player, Cassandra Maya Prado, who went down with a injury early in the second round. We ended up having to retire that match, 1-6, which was our only doubles loss of the day.”
The Warriors struggled in a singles, winning only one set.
“Zahra Porinsh was our lone set winner on the day. She played very well and realized what was at stake in the last round where she ended up beating the Ranger No. 3, 6-1,” said Bryant.
In doubles, with the exception of the “retired loss,”Carpinteria only dropped 10 games in the nine doubles sets
Ariana Lounsbury/Natalie Martinez and Abbie Delwiche/Valerie Ojeda each swept their three sets and dropped five games total between them. Natalia Perez/Cassandra Maya Prado went 1-1 while Perez paired with Nansy Velasquez to go 1-0.
Carpinteria finishes the regular season at 12-6 overall and 8-2 in the Citrus Coast League.
