Carpinteria was blanked by Hueneme ace Ismael Robles in a Citrus Coast League game on Tuesday, ending its hopes of making the CIF baseball playoffs.
Robles came up with big pitches with runners on base and beat the Warriors, 3-0. He stranded seven runners in a complete-game performance.
Carpinteria pitcher Shane Goodmanson pitched well and the Warriors played solid defense.
“Good pitching and defense from both sides,” said Carpinteria coach Pat Cooney. “I was happy to see our group play with maturity and calm as they should late in the season. We’re playing our best baseball, so it stings a bit to be edged out of the CIF tournament.
“Hueneme is a good club that deserves to be the second-place representative from the Citrus Coast League. They played two seasons without a home field due to construction and are making their first appearance in the playoffs in years.”
Carpinteria fell to 4-9-1 in league and 6-11-1 overall while Hueneme improved to 8-6, 12-9. The teams complete their season series on Thursday at Hueneme.
The Warriors will celebrate the class of 2022 on Saturday vs. Villnova at 11 a.m.
