Carpinteria ran into a tough St. Bonaventure squad in its season opener and dropped a 25-15, 25-14, 25-9 non-league volleyball match on Tuesday at home.

“We had a ton of energy to being with and played to our potential all the way thought the first set,” coach Dino Garcia said. “In the second set, the Seraphs started to fire on all cylinders and never looked back.”

Outside hitter Malia Shellabarger had six kills and eight digs to lead the Warriors. Libero  Emily Montoya scooped 14 digs and served an ace and sophomore setter Marlene Sanchez handed out 19 assists.

Carpinteria hosts Orcutt Academy on Thursday.
