Carpinteria started strong and never let up in beating Hueneme, 16-2, in a Citrus Coast League girls tennis match on Thursday.
“We were very sharp from the start, which has been an issue for us sometimes,” said coach Charles Bryant. “But today, the girls were focused and determined. They knew it would be a tight match and did not want to give the Vikings any momentum. We finished off sets and really played smart in all phases.”
In singles, Silke Leonard and Zahra Porinsh each swept their three sets, while Sasha Porinsh went 1-2.
In doubles, each Carpinteria team swept and only dropped two games a piece.
“We played very well and seemed to have a lot of confidence in what we were trying to do,” said Bryant.
Natalie Martinez/Ariana Lounsbury went 3-0 together while Valerie Ojeda went 2-0 with Abbie Delwiche and 1-0 with Stephanie Gonzalez. Cassandra Maya Prado went 2-0 with Nansy Velasquez and 1-0 with Natalia Perez.
Carpinteria is now 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the Citrus Coast League.
