Cassidy Rea recorded 11 kills and Brooklynn Cheney added eight more as Westmont Volleyball (19-5, 10-3 GSAC) swept San Diego Christian (3-18, 0-14) on Friday night at Murchison Gymnasium. The Warriors allowed the Hawks just 30 total points, winning by scores of 25-10, 25-9, 25-11.

“All week long we’ve been preaching defense,” said Westmont head coach Ruth McGolpin. “My goal was to push them so hard in practice this week, that the games (this weekend) would be easy. At least today’s game was easy.

“We also worked on our middle attack. Lexi Malone had 14 attempts (five kills) and Kendall had 10 (four kills), which was good because we have not been using our middles enough.”

As a team, the Warriors posted a .316 attack percentage. Cheney hit .500 while Rea ended with a .476 percentage.

“The setting choices by both Sydney Dunn and Keelyn Kistner were good,” pointed out McGolpin. “They made the right decisions.”

Kistner notched 14 assists while Dunn added eight.

“They took care of business,” assessed McGolpin of her team’s performance. “I was happy to see that we had a high attack percentage and that our digging was good too. We had 10 aces and seven serving errors, but that is okay because I wanted them to serve tough and continue doing that for tomorrow.”

On Saturday, the Warriors will welcome the Lions of Vanguard to Murchison Gymnasium. Vanguard rallied from a two-set deficit at The Master’s tonight to post an 18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-9 win.
